Heya, guys... My chick is finally walking and is almost weaned. I've petted him and handled him a little...but what exactly is the best age to start training fly-back??

Kyle, you have to be careful with the new one. There really isn't an age to start. It all depends on the breathing capacity of the dove. It sounds like your dove is about 6 or 7 weeks old. Start out very simple with just a small toss from hand to hand. Watch it's breathing, and when it starts to breath heavy, stop. It's normal training. Once he can handle all the tosses back and forth, you can start trying the fly back. Remember, the fly back takes a lot of energy from the dove. A new bird usually doesn't have the wing strength to complete the return.
