Wow, what a really cool show! I just watched a few eppisodes and was blown away.
It's a car show (all high performance cars!), mixed with celebritie interviews. The celebrities take a car for a drive around a track and try to make time. The host posts the time of said on a board. From the names on the board, they get some big time celebs! (I couldn't believe I saw RICK WAKEMAN'S name!!! Wow, I grew up loving that guy, from YES, and got all his albums!) There are three hosts, again I think, and each show they are given a challenge that involves a car (in most cases) and a journey! The whole show is way cool! Do you know anything about this great show? How long has it been the air? From what I can guess, I think it's on once per week? That plus Ninja Warrior are my two new favorites! If you see either, check 'em out. |

Top Gear Rocks, been around since 1978.
Clarkson has been on the show since 1988. He really makes the show. Really good show. Yup once a week! I'm not a car person. but I love this. M:C |

Top Gear has been on for years, since 1978. Some friends introduced me to it some years back. I think the show might have been more 'serious' earlier on, than it has been over the last decade or so. I've posted some links to Top Gear videos in this forum before.
Here are a couple of cool Top Gear vids ... Car vs. Jet Fighter http://www.snotr.com/video/568 Winter Olympics special (last challenge, Mini off a ski jump): http://youtube.com/watch?v=mT33u4bMMLU If you get a chance, you should watch the Top Gear in America special. You can find it on youtube, in 5 or 6 parts. The bit where they drive through Alabama (I think) is amusing, and the bit when they go through New Orleans, post-Katrina, is quite heavy.

The Winter Olympics video I posted earlier cuts out before the very, very end.
This is the very, very last scene of that bit, which should not be missed: http://youtube.com/watch?v=kImS-ueh4oY

Wow, I watched all three clips...Excellent!
The Stig? I don't understand what he's about? I've seen him in some of the shows but don't know much about him. However, after seeing him drive off the ski jump, I will say he's the Man! Thanks Balducci! |

Is stig short for something?
The first episode I ever saw, was where they had a challenge to go some pace, on a bicycle, train, car and a boat. The Stig was on the train wearing his helmet. I thought that was funny. |

I'm happy to hear you enjoyed the clips.
I understand - based on what people have told me - that there have been several Stigs over the years. Hence the reason he is always covered up. Wikipedia has a page about him, and notes: "The Stig's name derives from presenter Jeremy Clarkson's days at Repton School.[1] According to Clarkson, new students were always called "Stig." A proposed name for the Stig was originally "The Gimp" until protests from Perry McCarthy nixed the idea.[2] There have been two official Stigs on the show, while various other Stigs have made cameo appearances for particular episodes." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Stig Check the page above, see the section on "Identity". And two of the references listed at the end of that page make good reading: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/EDITORIAL/CA......815.html http://driving.timesonline.co.uk/tol/lif......6470.ece
