HARLAN's Professional JAM SESSIONS This is no "standard magic lecture" -- the Professional Jam Session provides you with incredible insight into the psychology and methodology of deception, and treats you to fully scripted professional routines to illustrate every point. Each session includes personal, practical instruction from Dan Harlan, a full-time professional magician with over 30 years of real-life performing experience. How much is that going to cost you? How about 25 bucks? Yep, that's right, just enough to keep the "dead weight" away so we can get into the real secrets of magic, yet still unbelievably cheap! "Truly a creative genius, Dan Harlan's personal instruction provides a rare opportunity to acquire the essential tools that will last a lifetime." -- Jeff McBride Here's just a few things I'll share with you: Perfecting Sleights and Various Forms of Misdirection Creating Your Own Effects and Personalizing Your Material The Hook and Other Scripting Techniques Building Routines to a Climax and The Principle of the Series of 3 Structuring Your Show for Maximum Impact How to Get Paying Gigs and What to Charge How to Approach People in Any Situation Types of Audiences and Handling Difficult Spectators Stage Presence: What it is and How to Get It Major Causes of Stage Fright and How to Deal With It What To Do When Things Go Wrong Life on the Road and What Goes On Behind the Scenes ...and plenty of other cool stuff! Plus, I recommend you bring a routine you're working on and I will show you how to hone it to perfection. The price for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity is only $25 per person, so... will you sit at home wondering what all the fuss is about, or will you hang out with me and the "hardcore group" who care about creating great magic. It's your choice -- I hope to see you there. You may also bring a notebook to write down important notes (audio recording permitted, video is not). If you would like personal instruction on a specific routine, bring it with you. Thanks again for supporting this exciting new concept. I'll see you there! --Dan Harlan - - - - - - - - - - - - - DAN HARLAN created Card-Toon, Hover-Card, Crazy-8, Color-Mixer, Hold It Buster, Hot Crossed Ones, Missing Think, My Word!, Red Rover, Royal Oil, Switchblade, The JUG, etc. His incredible routines include Burnt to the Core, Cheez Wiz, Horror Matrix, Now U Z It, Rising Dough, Starcle, Tight Rope, World's Saddest Trick, and of course... countless rubber-band effects. Guys, $25!!! That's a steal! And no pun intended, Dan... although I'm sure it seems that way.
To all those that are hemming and hawing about going... STOP!!!! Plunk down the $25 and GO!!! Look, Dan has some unique ideas on just about everything that has to do with the magic field. You will learn a hundred times your money's worth by going to this lecture. I have no vested interest in this lecture, but I do know Dan and I've hung around with him and been on think tanks with him. He's got a lot of cool ideas and an endless well of knowledge. Don't pass this up. You spend that kind of money on a few designer coffees. C'mon, go!! Greg

I had the privilege of attending Mr. Harlan's Jam Session in Columbus, Ohio last night and it was outstanding. If you have a Jam Session coming anywhere near you, GO, you will not be disappointed. The Magic was awesome and I learned more about presentation, scripting and building a real professional show and truly entertaining an audience than I ever have before. Not to mention it just an incredible experience being part of such an intimate evening with a true professional the caliber of Mr. Harlan. Dan - THANK-YOU, I learned so much, it was one the best lectures I've ever been to and one of the most memorable events in Magic I've had.

Hi John,
You will have a great time. I took a ton of notes but looking back I wish I would have taken a voice recorder and my digital camera and I even forgot a deck of cards. He teaches an absolutely killer card force. Let me know how you like it. Joe |

Just got home from Dan Harlan's Jam Session. We were so thrilled to be able to host him here at our shop. If you live near any of these upcoming events, you MUST go!
Tonight Dan was in perfect form as he lectured for over three hours! He covered some of his old material, as well as a TON of new stuff. When going through the explanations of items he performed during the lecture he made sure to cover the theories and thought processes he applied in constructing these routines. From scripting to timing to prop management, Dan taught everyone the methods he used to enhance each effect even more. We had a great turn out, and everyone learned something no matter what their ability was. Dan truly is one of the most creative minds in magic. Check him out if you have the opportunity! |

Maybe Dan will film it and make a DVD. It's been awhile since we've had a Harlan release.

I went to Dan's show and lecture at the Trick Shop in Temecula last night. Great venue, great event. Without a doubt, a wonderful experience, and highly recommended for everyone. Dan's performance alone was incredibly entertaining and well worth the minor investment in money. My time investment actualy turned out to be more, and one I gladly paid, as Dan perfornmed and lectured for well over three hours. His insights into performing and scripting will be most helpful to me in the future. Dan answered my questions thoughtfully and completely, with a genuine sense of wanting to help me. He also advised me on an ending for a specific routine on which I have been working. I did forget my tape recorder, and that was my only regret of the night. Do yoursef a favor and make every effort to go to a lecture in your area.

If Dan offers to hold one of his jam sessions in your area, by all means go! Even if he's not in your immediate area, but within driving distance, go! (I did.)
I attended his "jam session" workshop at the Trick Shop, in Temecula (CA) last night and it was nothing short of great. It was personal and he made the 3+ hours fly by. [Dan, I would gladly pay for a DVD that included everything that you covered including your recap of recent current events.] Dan began with a discussion of his recent problems stemming from years of alcohol. Specifically, he hit bottom and sustained a black out (common in alcoholics; I treat many as a physician) during which he did "some pretty stupid stuff". He was very frank about the events and notes that he's been sober since and attends A.A. meetings regularly. I attended with a friend (Bob Elliott) who has known Dan for years and Bob stated unequivocably that the inebriated "Evil Dan" of that winter night in Ohio(?) was not the Dan that everybody has known and loved through the years. They say that confession is good for the soul and this must be true because following the above discussion, he looked as if a burden had been lifted and lept right into his comedy magic act with great enthusiasm and excitement. His act was nothing short of amazing - I mean, how often does one get to see a magician perform incredible flourishes ( split fans, cards from mouth, amazing shuffles and passes) using slices of American cheese instead of a pack of cards! You have to see this in order to believe it... pure genius! A brief intermission and then to the meat/heart of his talk. While he demonstrated how to perform every one of his tricks (ranging from rubber bands, ropes, and burning bills to Starkle), more important was his philosophy of what makes good magic and how to properly plan out/script one's performance. He delved into the rule of 3's and demonstrated how each of his tricks/effects adhered to this structure. There was far too much good material for me to reproduce here - just be aware that this was an incredible opportunity. Dan lovingly passed on one great tip after another with a sincere attempt to make us all better magicians. I truly hope that Dan does videotape this entire workshop/session from start to finish and puts it out on DVD soon. It would be an important part of any magician's personal library. Once again, if you can get to see Dan as he tours, make an effort to get there - it's well worth it (hell - it was worth way more than the $25 taken at the door!).
Life is an improv. The game goes on...

I was at the Magic Apple lecture tonight. Dan was in top form. $25!!! You've probably spent that kind of money on silly effects or booklets. This is a bunch of hours with a creative genius. C'mon!!!
Pinch your pennies and just go. You are going to see a kick a#@ money to impossible location effect. A funny as %$ routine that deals with a banana, bread slices, ketchup, cheese and a clear baggie. Yes, you read that right. All this an a full 40 minute show that he then breaks down beat for beat, step by step, idea by idea, moment by moment, etc. And throughout you can ask him anything... and I mean ANYTHING!!! $25!!! Are you kidding me?! I wish I had this opportunity when I was starting out and even at this age I got a lot out of it. Greg

Dan visited Las Vegas last evening and everyone in attendance (about 20 folks) thoroughly enjoyed his Jam Session. Dan did spend a few minutes up front taliking about his recent "events", but the focus was on performance and how to implement some specific artistic and creative formulas to make one's magic performance more meaningful, logical and entertaining while making it easier for the performer to present. Definately stuff you don't usually get at a lecture. A worthwhile evening with a truly innovative pro.

I hadn't the opportunity to see Dan Harlan perform, and had no knowledge of his recent legal troubles. I only attended his Chicago jam lecture because Magic Inc is three blocks from my apartment and I had the Saturday afternoon off.
I found Dan to be an engaging, funny and extremely talented professional that gave us all 10x more than the $25 entrance fee for the event. He's made a fan out of me this afternoon, and that's a nice feat, since I don't care for many of the "big name" magicians that do these types of lectures. Bravo dan! |
