There's the "Swing-a-Ring." It looks like real magic. You literally take a truly solid ring and simply throw it onto a truly solid string right in front of everyone's eyes. It looks absolutely impossible. You can spin the ring and just touch the string to it and it's linked on. It's as real looking as it gets. To me, it feels like cheating, so I don't use it. But it's a very clever little gimmick/effect with many possible routines.

You can get the routine (which is very cool) and the props from Scott F. Guin.

No. Scott Guinn sells his own routine, complete with the ring and the rope. (Called "Great scott's ring & Rope Routine)
I also have a novel and very effective Ellis ring routine in "Magishing My Way" called "Jellis." Contact me for details. You can see a review of both the R&R routine and the book on the Visions website. Click on the "At the Shop" button on the left column of the current issue. http://www.online-visions.com

How big you talking about? Scotts routine isn't really limited by ring size. I can't imagine why his routine wouldn't be effective with quite a large ring if that's what you wish to use.

My ring and rope routine IS a harnes ring routine. I use a 3" ring, sometimes a 5" inch ring. The routine I sell comes with either a 3" ring and rope for platform performance, or with a 2" ring and cord for close up.

Daryl has a harness ring and rope effect on his Fooler Doolers DVD number three called the Bracelet and Rope Routine. Could be what you are looking for.

I've seen all of the above mentioned routines as well as others, and in my opinion, the absolute best is Eric DeCamps' routine. I'm pretty sure it can be found on his Stars of Magic volume...

You may consider J.G.Thompson's 'Top Secrets of Magic' It shows all of the functional parts of the effects, but contains no patter or flow in the routine.(mostly a handling expose')
Scott Guinn's Jellis routine, bridges all the gaps missing in Thompson's book and is extremely funny. Highly recommended! It contains all of the elements missing from most routines as well as a very, very clever story line, and several by play jokes that will leave everybody in stitches. (I was laughing out loud just reading it)

I have the Willi Wessel Close-up Ring and Rope routine which I think is really good. It's from El Duco.

I have combined several effects from different routines into my own routine. The plot is about the ring escaping from the rope three times under more an more impossible conditions.
The first idea is from Flip Hallema (Netherlands). The ring is seemingly thrown onto the rope. The first escape is a standard move that seems to be around for ages. For the second escape I use ideas from David Williamson's routine. The ends of the rope are tied together to make it even more difficult for the ring to escape. The third penetration uses an idea from Felix Farell (Germany) published in his book "Aus dem Effeff". Not only are the ends tied together, but the ring is actually tied into that knot. For a climax, the ring is removed from the rope, carrying the knot with it. Other sources I recommend: Aldo Colombini: Ringing Around (Video 'Classics of Magic' )and Ringing Around Too (Video sold separately) Franciy Tabary: The Elegenat Rope Magic of Francis Tabary (Video) Alexander de Cova: Stand-Up-Routinen Nr. 4 (Video in German) Douglas Atkinson has compiled a list of references to books, videos and tricks dealing with rings and strings. Maybe you can find something suitable. http://magicref.tripod.com/magref/magstring.htm Frank |

It has been out for a while, but I like "Full Circle," if that counts as a ring and string.

David Williamson's ring and rope routine are really good - although it ends as a rope trick.
