Go Pro with Tom Krzystof at Penquin Magic
The video demo doesn't make the production values look all that good but it does look like there might be some good material on prop management, etc. Wondering if anyone has purchased this and what they thought. The Effect The difference between amateur and pro can be measured in one simple word--preparedness. A pro is ready for ANYTHING. Tom went pro after a career in management at FedEx. In his spare time he's also a wilderness survival expert. Tom knows a thing or two about being ready for anything and delivering as promised. In this two volume set, Tom will show you: How to manage and organize your props before, during, and after the gig. How to transform a store-bought case into the ultimate portable performance table. How to use a ditch box to transition from one prop to the next during performance. Plus TONS and TONS of advice from a guy who's been there before and made it work. |

Hi Rockwall, Tom Krzystof here. I was wondering what others are thinking about this product as well. I am assuming that you have read the comments on Penguin's site under the product description.
The only other comment I have read is from "Konjurer" on this link http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......forum=41 about seven posts down. I hope this helps. TK |

Why not a DVD instead of a download ?
Don't care for long downloads.

Hello Tom,
Thanks for the info. Can you give us a little more information about this? How long is the 2 DVD set? What's contained in them? Chapters? I understand that the set also includes some tricks. Maybe a short description of them. What's on the DVD besides pocket management and case construction? Thanks, Mike |

Rockwall,
I have to admit that I have yet to see the final cuts of this project so I can't tell you specifically how the chapters are broken down but here is a snapshot of what is contained in this project. With so many tables, cases and stands, how do you know which one is right for you? (Also, with so many tables, cases and performance venues, this DVD will NOT be all-inclusive, it couldn’t be!). These are useful ideas for all budgets and programs. These are proven, hardcore tips on how to make you look streamlined, professional and when necessary, making a quick entrance and exit during your program. I have used them all over the years. As I stated in the promo trailer, my goal is simple – to help you to make your act look professional and remove some of the clutter. From a casual performer to a working pro, my hopes are that you can walk away with some usable information to streamline your act, transport it safely and look more professional – without paying a king’s ransom. The following is an outline of the discussion topics. TV Tables Don’t discount this as an option. I have seen some top pros (including Jeff McBride and Mark Wilson) use this type of table. • How to paint, decorate and modify them Sand and spray paint. Texturing the table top • Covers (i.e. tablecloths and decorative “custom” cloths) RESTAURANT STANDS (Tray Jacks) and Stools • With Briefcases... • With Tool Cases. • With Catalog Cases. • With Wooden Crates • With Cardboard Boxes KEYBOARD STANDS (as a base) With all of the above uses as well as a “Luxury” top. I also discuss how to make this top. MICROPHONE STAND (as a base) • With Tool cases. To be discussed at the end of the DVD. • With Doctors Bag. The same principles apply with the exception that you can use wood to re- enforce the bottom of the bag. • With Catalog Cases. Same as Doctors bags • With Table Top (flat top). MISCELLANEOUS TABLES • Nightclub tables • Card tables • Banquet Tables. • “Camp” Tables. • Wine Racks. BUILDING YOUR OWN TABLES STORAGE AND TRANSPORT It has been said that the most important piece of magic apparatus that we own is the box that we carry it in. If that is true than why is it what we pay the least amount of attention to? TEASER: Street performers and some stand up venues require you to set up quickly and strike your (break down) act quickly. Let me show you a case that has worked out well for me. (I teach you the fine points of how to construct and use the "Go Pro" Case.) STORAGE CASES AND BOXES (How to organize and transport your props) The use of a “daily” magic case. There you have it, a very long answer to a short question I think that I have covered most of what people are asking about this project. My intention was to provide some very useful and practical information that I haven't found on the market. If you are looking for a "trendy", eye candy type DVD, this isn't it. We decided to forego the "flashiness" to provide you with as much practical information as possible. The second disk is a one camera shoot that provides a ton of advice but is not much to look at. This would have been even more difficult to put into print and keep it to one volume. I hope this answers most of your questions. Sincerely, Tom Krzystof P.S. There are only three tricks on this DVD. The focus of this was to help you to grow as a performer - most of us have more tricks than we could possibly use. |

Tom,
I'm not aware of anything else on the market like it so I think I'll purchase it and try and put up a review here. Doesn't sound like it's on but a nice addition that is along the same lines might have been some material on portable sound systems and mic's. Thanks, Mike |

Mike, it would have been great to add much more to this list but this pair of DVDs is already over 3 hours long - yikes!
I have already shot a second project on strolling magic and have an outline of my thoughts for what else a working magician might need, or should I say what I wish someone would have shared with me, when starting out in this business. It is my sincere intention to help the magician out that is looking to be more professional and not break their budget doing it. I look forward to your review. Sincerely, TK |

For those of you looking for a review of this other than what is on Penguin's website you might be interested in what Konjurer wrote on another thread. He wrote:
"Penguin Magic recently gave away promo copies of Go Pro with Tom Krzystof: Tables, Cases and Gear (Volumes 1 and 2). It is a downloadable DVD so you can get instant access (after a long download). http://penguinmagic.com/product.php?ID=1162 I never would have purchased this if I had not gotten it for free but I have to say it turned out to be a really a great DVD. It provides a ton of storage options with a ton of great ideas such as turning you prop case into a close-up table. It covers gear from pocket organizers and inexpensive case options, from small tackle boxes to larger cases, stands and tables. Really great stuff about managing props and looking professional. Stuff you normally have to learn from the school of hard knocks." Christopher, this was a fun project and it is my sincere hopes that everyone that purchases this product gains some type of benefit from it. Thanks for the interest everyone! Tom |

Great video for building & purchasing tables & cases. Lots of detail to organization & prop management.
I would rather have a DVD than a download. |

Mysterious, thanks for the kind words.
Unfortunately I have no control over the distribution of the product, that is in Penguins hands. Thanks again! TK |

Tom, no problem. That’s interesting that penguin has that kind of control, I had no idea.
This video is three hours of great detail. There is no video like this on the market. |

Update: As of now, there is no date set but I am told that this will also be available on DVD, complete with menu. I agree that this would be easier to view with the aid of a menu as there is so much information on this program.
