Is there a magic related blacklist, (sort of like the Tim Ellis' Magic fakers ripoff list) but pertaining to known pirates? If not, would there be any interest in creating one? Magic dealers (who care) can crosscheck with the list, to see if any potential customer is on the blacklist and choose not to sell to them. Likewise, this could also be used to ban those individuals from forums and clubs.
It's not a foolproof solution, but it was the best one I could come up with. Most people seem to think "ignoring the pirates" is the best option, but I'm not sure I agree with that. |

Good idea. Val Valentino should be on the top of the list.

While the intention is good, this could be dangerous. Who would administer it, and who would decide whose name goes on this list? The practice of "Blacklisting" does not have an honorable history.

Was a joke.. taken after the testimony of people accused of being communists before congress..
Ok maybe a bit lame.. I'll apologize.

Of course I recalled the parallel to the House UnAmerican testimony and it's irony and hypocrisy in context - and hoped the Criss Angel reference would amuse as well.
No apologies required IMHO - just enjoy the dialog and contribute what you feel would help things along. :)

Bill Larsen had a secret, (or not so secret) blacklist. Bill Bixby was on of those on it. That was a shame because I'm sure he got a lot of us into magic who normally would not have.

" I am not now, nor have ever been a magic exposer. Nor know of any." Thanks for the good chuckle. Looking back, wasn't it the couple who sold the secrets that got the worst treatment? By the way, I am no longer a "practicing" exposer, for the record...
Also known, when doing rope magic, as "Cordini"

I vividly recall Genii magazine (edited by Bill Larsen) heavily promoting Bixby's "The Magician" tv series and how frequently Bill Bixby was an invited presenter at the annual Academy of Magical Arts (Magic Castle) awards . This hardly seems like it would have happened if Bill Larsen had Bill Bixby on a "blacklist" . Why would Bixby be on such as blacklist even if one existed ? Bixby didn't expose magic on his show "The Magician" , nor on several of the television magic specials that he (Bixby) hosted in that era. Not to mention the fact that "The Magician" series put magicians in general in a very good light , and gave a lot of very favorable free publicity to the Magic Castle nightclub owned by Bill and Milt Larsen. |

Sounds a bit like Homeland Security. Too much power for someone to decide something like that by themselves.
