When you're pestered for an explanation for what you've just done, you can provide a very erudite response. This research study on "The pleasures of uncertainty: Prolonging positive moods in ways people do not anticipate" was recently described on the PsyBlog blog:

Andy,
I have an unpublished essay making much the same point. There is a lot about this in a book by Daniel Gilbert called "Stumbling On Happiness" which other things applicable to the art of mentalism. I also quote a bit of fiction that I think describes it better. John Fowles, in his novel "The Magus," explains it better than most non-fiction attempts when his character Conchis says, "...this is because mystery has energy. It pours energy into whoever seeks the answer to it. If you disclose the solution to the mystery you are simply depriving the other seekers of an important source of energy." |

Now there is scientific proof that a disclaimer adversely effects a performers show and or an audiences appreciation of said show.
I had already found that out for myself and to tell you the truth it works for the skeptics, believers and those who tread the center aisle. Might even be true for the NLP, and Influence, framing many of you use. Pretty sure it diminishes the enjoyment based on the information in the article. -JCC-DOA H.O.A-X

I think some people want to know how something is done because they need closure. Their brain is searching for the answer. They have just witnessed something that is outwith the bounds of what they know as reality.
And it will continue for a while maybe days or weeks unconsciously seeking the answer. I use Mentalism in this way to create unconscious connections with clients and to open their minds to the other information I want them to get. |

So we want to resolve Mystery that surrounds a Negative event (Reducing Anxiety), but we don't mind prolonging Mystery for a Positive event ...Right?
That sounds good
