Hey, I have 2 doves and I'm currently trying to train them. I always try to be extreamly gentel with the doves but sometimes when I try and pick them up, the grip to whatever they are perched on to avoid it. Is it too "rough" to still pick them up when they are clining to the perch? Also my birds seem to get winded very fast, how can I make them get into better shape? One more thing, what kind of treats can I reward my dove with?

Lot's of questions, most have been discussed here before but let's see. First, instead of trying to pick the dove up, place you outstretched finger on the chest just below their bill and slide it down slowing with a little pressure down towards the feet. They should step up onto your finger.
Doves get "winded" from lack of excercise. Practice with them everyday for short periods of time. Gradually they will gain more strength and be able to work for longer periods of times. Treats: peanut butter small pieces of bread hard boiled eggs frozen peas leaf lettuce (not iceburg0 egg shells song bird food diced apples
