Magicians are very protective of their proprietary material, but unless you are stealing someone else's whole act jugglers feel that there are no tricks that are proprietary. Once when Anthony Gatto put out his first performance VHS tape Nick Gatto told me "If you see something there that you can duplicate it is all yours to take" and then Nick laughed. In juggling everything is out in the open and we generally don't care. I will not be trying Steve & Mikes hat routine any time soon.

I am totally disagreeing here. jugglers like all performers are more concerned about their lines, context of their tricks, and their routines. Like if I put togeher a great string of three ball tricks that I had taken a long time to think out I would not be happy if some one ripped it off trick for trick even if they did not rob the lines or context and even if none of the tricks used were mine. Jugglers very teritorial especialy when it comes to "easy tricks".
For instance Al would you not be a little ticked if I started doing a 2 ball and hat routine in the area you work? Also the reason dudes like Anthony G don't care is because only a small number of people can do their bits and even then they cannot do them well or at least as well as they do. Or at least I assume. Just my 2 cents ATG |

Perhaps I was too vague two balls and a hat is a routine, but hat manipulation is using a universal prop, and if you like the way I do the foot to the head ending of the hat it is yours to use in your own routine. I think we agree, but it was my fault for not being totally clear.

Al,
I'm going to use your bit where you drop the balls, if you don't mind. John |

It is good to see you posting here my friend. The truth of the matter is that you live far enough away from me that I'll share any of my show with you. It is a compliment for me to hear that you think I'm good enough to copy.
