Hello All,
I am just looking for the name of the following effect, or the book in which it can be found. A while back I saw a performer do an impromptu mental effect(at least I would catagorize it as such), where the performer had, let's say, 5 pieces of paper and he had the subject write, or draw, a word, number or picture on each twice, at the top and the bottom of the slips of papers, which were torn in half. Both stacks of papers were mixed up face down, one by the subject and the other by the performer. The subject laid down his stack face down, then the performer did the same...and both matched. Of course, my memory of the effect might be a bit muddled, but in my mind that is how it came off. Sorry if this post is a bit long!

I don't know about this one. But if you want to do it just think of those pieces as playing cards.
Hope that'll help. |

There are many versions of this effect, one of the cleanest and can be done exactly as you described it with a small adjustment is PERFECT ESP on THE UNEXPECTED DVD (Peter Nardi and Marc Spelmann).

Perfect Esp is very close and a wonderful effect.

Paul Harris does an effect like this with business cards. It is written up in Art of Astonishment, volume 3.
In his effect you need to "spell" certain words while mixing. I am not sure if that is what you saw performed. |

Aldo has released it with animal cards for a Noah"s Arc effect, there is a Harry Potter version out there (I think by what used to be Wild Magic), there are dozens of ESP card version out there as well. There was a version I published in the Barnstormer back in 1994 using drawings that were torn in half, in my routine a selected (thought of) drawing was the only one to match, but it was the same principle. There are variations like this with torn cards and duplicate packets of cards, photos, symbols, even a domino (and rune stone) version.

I originally ran into a version of this effect called "ESPieces" by Michael Sibbernsen.

For a person to have an interest going back at least 4 years (as membership here would indicate), he is not just someone who saw something on TV and came here to find out how it works. (I looked at his info before deciding to post anything as I do agree with and follow your logic on this issue as a general rule of thumb.) BTW, as for not posting before, that really does not mean anything other than he did not have anything to say. I personally did not post here until a few years ago, but I've been involved in this type of entertainment for well over 30 years.
Getting back to what was asked, I provided him with a source that has been reviewed and discussed here many times, and a second post which listed additional research areas (no specific effect ort source was listed, he would have to search to find any of them). Tony |

Hello Rob,
Sounds *very* much like ESPieces. I see that you are in Lincoln, my old grad-studies stomping grounds. Many years ago, while there, I had the pleasure of serving as President of the local Ring, as you have. There is a good chance you saw someone from your club, who attended an early lecture, perform the routine. Since republishing (an updated version of) ESPieces in my book Frame of Mind, it has been removed from sale in all other forms as to preserve exclusivity. You may however, still be able to find some old lecture notes on the secondary market. Take Care, Michael Sibbernsen |
