Does anyone have any experience with the Single Flash Gun listed on this website here:
http://themagicwarehouse.com/tfire2.html (there is also a double listed on the previous page) I'm looking for a hand held device (or one that could be up the sleeve) that produces a flame. Hard to test drive this stuff over the internet and local shops are spotty with this kind of stuff at best. Thanks! |

Two sources you definitely have to check out for fire effects. One is Jim Pace, and the other is Rick Haslett. Both have glowing Café recommendations, and excellent products.
If you want to produce a flame, check out Jim Pace's Inviso-Torch (now called Phoenix). If you want to produce a flash from the hand or other body part, check out Haslett's electronic stuff. If you want to produce a shooting, travelling ball of fire, check out Pace's Mestopholies. Jim Pace's site is here: http://www.fireffects.com/ Haslett's is here: http://www.ahouseoffire.com/ I also really like Kevin Lepine's Portable Flamethrower, but it is not self-contained, and requires an external flame source (like a lighter or candle). Check it out here: http://www.firedupeffects.com/ |

The single flash gun you link to shoots a ball of flashpaper.
It does not create a flame, like a torch. You want a flame, do what dreamdream says to do. Randi |

Dreamadream- thanks for all the links, however Haslett's website was hard to navigate and see his product. Lepine's is not for me. The Pace stuff I knew about but am on the fence. The new Phoenix does look cool, but his handling in the video make me wonder if it's awkward to use as it's obvious he manipulating something unseen. I didn't see a Mestopholies on his website - whats that?
randirain- Thanks for the input. Sorry I wasn't clear, I am interested in both effects to be more clear. =) Cool website you have. |

I would stear you away from a flash gun, because it's harder to ditch after the shot.
Jim Pace has a mechanical flame (Pheonix) and an electronic flame (Electric Inviso-Torch). The mechanical one does have to be manipulated, much like a flint lighter. Both are instantly retractable, leaving you clean. Mestophilies is further down on his main page. It is also retractable (in fact, he clearly shows you the works in the video). To get a true idea of all that Haslett offers, click on each item and watch the video demo. Read the descriptions carefully. Most are done in the hands, but others can be triggered from elsewhere on the body, and can shoot the flame from different locations on the body. |

I use Kevin Lepine's Portable Flamethrower, it is a lot to carry around but has great flamage.
I also like Jim Pace's Mestophilies, this produces a nice throwing flame effect and a concealment feature. For quick out of the pocket and at a good price is Rick Haslett's Wanna Flash. Great folks to deal with too. Now ignitors for flash paper or cotton is another story. |

If you have questions about different fire/flame effects, there's a guy on here who owns about every one of them, and would be an excellent resource. I think he's helpful, and a nice guy, and very prolific on the Up In Smoke forum. His username is Haywire, and you can pm him by clicking here.

The best way to ditch a flash gun is with a topit. It can not go up and stay in a sleeve without being noticed.

Also, as you can control the fuel flow, you can use it to steal the flame from a candle or a lighter (if someone else is lighting it). You can then transition the little flame into the biggest prolonged flame there is out there and then instantly end completely clean. What's not to love? A little tip for those who use this, try marrying up the business end with your magnetic ring; it really improves the flexibility of what can be done.

I use to have a flamethrower by a different brand. The problem is it must be performed first.

Not the case... In several times in practice this puppy just doesn't shut off fast enough after you let go..

I have to agree with Kevinr. I've nearly set my tux on fire several times with Pace's InvisoTorch, regardless of how fast it snaps back.. Plus, if you extend the tubing too far, the butane leaks from the valve. Either way, far too unreliable.
Is his electronic version an improvement in these regards? |
