Saw Derren's latest this evening.
A wonderful performer as I have mentioned many times before and a well constructed performance. The staging, lighting, theming were excellent but regardless of that Derren commands the stage with ease with a very likable slightly vulnerable persona which works very well and makes him more human. A full standing ovation which was truly deserved by a modern master.. See this show if you can get tickets... Spelmann

It was indeed a good show last night, even though I bottled going over to say hello to marc in the interval.

Sadly I can't get a ticket or I would have been there tomorrow (a day off Hurray)
But Derren is the best at what he does. No one can compete with him because he has cleverly created his own thing, with some great help from Andy Nyman etc. I don't know why so many Derren clones suddenly appear trying to be a 'new Derren'. He is unique and always will be. It is pointless and silly to want to get to where he is. All we can (and should) do is to admire and be inspired to come up with our own way. It's been said many times by greater men than me but we need to be an original 'me' rather than a great copy of someone else. More power to him. he deserves it all. John |

Well said, John. . . except for one thing. It's important for us all to strive to get where he is. I don't mean to copy him, but to find what is ours and embrace it (and push at it, just like we do with other parts of ourselves).
I'm sure you meant differently, but it's a small point that I think is extremely important. /paul.f |

RE: John Archer (aka me ex love) makes a great point and probably without knowing it as he is a modest guy is the perfect example, John does mentalism his way and for any of you that may have seen him you'll know what I mean.. I had a conversation with Derren late last year as we sipped on our hot beverages and contemplated the meaning of The Nolan Sisters and discussed that very thing. There are many angles to approach mentalism, Andy Nyman is one of my favourites to watch and even though he writes with Derren so much still maintains his persona and slightly cheeky approach. Likewise Graham Jolley is brilliant and is one of a kind, as is John Archer. Again it is not about being someone else, but as John wrote it is about being you, I discuss this in my lectures, I look slightly drugged up (I'm not and have never been) some find me a little spooky and wouldn't be surprised if I worshipped Lucifer (I don't any more.) So for me I use that to create 'me' it doesn't suit me to be like Bill Malone nor would it suit Bill to be like me. Finding out who you really are is the most rewarding thing you can ever achieve in this art, far more satisfying than the latest gizmo that anyone kind buy.. Ramble over, Derren was great and had a standing ovation and rightly so, and the brave little chap had a stinking cold. Marc Spelmann

I saw the show tonight (Friday), and it was terrific. Derren has a great stage persona which wins over the audience immediately. He had the audience in the palm of his hand and used that control to achieve some great "kickers." He is extremely quick with his jokes and ad libs, and the audience was laughting constantly
His Q&A section is as good as it gets, and evoked gasp after gasp from the audience. For the finale he uses a techniques we all know and carried them to the nth degree. The audience fairly leapt to their feet. The show is being filmed next week for a special and subsequent DVD. I can't wait to see that so I can watch, enjoy, and learn again. (Actually, I'm going again tomorrow night, too. I didn't fly across the ocean just to see it once.) As they say over here, "Cheers, y'all." Bob |

Oh and thanks Mr Spelman... you are too kind. When is Nardi organising the USA tour? Can't wait to share that Winnebego with ya. ;-) J |

Morning Archer (UK time 10.24am)
That is one of life's big mysteries. It will happen but as always Nardi has trouble organising his sock drawer let alone a US tour. We need to gang up on him as I have had so many requests for US lectures both on the East coast and West coasts. Best MS

Did you guys get that bit where he came out and played the guitar? I thought that was the only terrible bit about the show. Was there some point to that, which I totally missed?

Were you on the phone at the time?
My favorite part of that section was the line "and also that was, well..... sh*t really"
