There is a website that offers suggestions for handling violations of this nature. http://www.handicappedfraud.org Maybe it will help...maybe not. It's worth a look.

We notice people abusing handicap parking spots all the time here. It's disgusting. At LEAST have the decency to fake a limp or something. Instead they get out and sprint into a store while someone with an oxygen tank tries not to fall down on the scorching hot asphalt.
At school, one time, my mother noticed a girl on the softball team unloading her gear and jogging towards the gymnasium. She was so ticked off. She called the dean of athletics. And we really hope he had a talk with the coach. What sort of impression would that have on someone visiting??? But it really is an epidemic here. And it's sad. What's also sad is the fact that my mom can barely walk and it took her YEARS of praying for a close spot until she was allowed get the placard. And every time she sees this one guy around here, it ticks her off. He has a handicap sticker on his motorcycle's license plate. What affects walking that isn't aggravated by/or makes it impossible to ride a motorcycle??? And I'd swear in court that it seems like there are more people around here that have handicap placards than those who don't. It's disgusting.

I know less than nothing about motorcycle riding, and I'm not a doctor, but I've heard often of people who get berated for parking in a handicapped spot WITH A STICKER and "looking like they're able-bodied." True, many people cheat, but many others have hidden handicaps. If I were just a little surer on my feet, I wouldn't need a walker but I'd still not have sufficiant balance to walk across a potholed parking lot. Others can walk a short way but become rapidly exhausted, and still others have different unseen problems. It's an imperfect system, but it's better than nothing. |

Boynextdoor. My wife uses the handicapped parking when she is out, which is rare, and she has no limp or other noticable physical problem. She has had heart failure a couple times, dropped dead in a restaurant after a full cardiac arrest and beat odds 97% her being brought back at all and went code blue four times and I was actually told in the hospital that she had died when a nurse revived her the last time. She is on her fifth difibulator/pacemaker in seven years because they had to change or upgrade to keep her going and she is on oxygen when at home. She can walk at a normal pace for a hundred yards before needing to rest. What say ye, should she give back the placard because she doesn't 'limp'?

I hope it is understood I do NOT feel that is my place to determine IF a person does or does not qualify for placard! My redazz is for those who don't have such a placard or sticker and just use these parking spaces for thier convenience!
Just wanted to be clear on this! Mick |

I remember a sub-plot on the old cop show "Hill Street Blues" where the tough cop parked in a handicapped spot and got his car spray painted by a hard-core in a wheel chair.

I wish a truly disabled person would park behind these folks so they can't get out, and take their sweet time getting back to the car. I think it would make the point!

I'm guilty! Sometimes I have used one of those spaces when running into a small store for something quick. I don't think I have EVER seen either of the spots used by a car sporting a placard. No that it makes it ok, I understand that and I would feel bad if I came out and found that I had deprived someone, who really needed to park close, of their spot.

Magic Santa, I should hope (After the brief medical history you provided) that she doesn't have to drive herself considering the risk to her own safety and the safety of others. I doubt anyone would argue that any sort of complications would only be exacerbated or made a lot more difficult to treat if they were to occur while behind the wheel of a moving car.
AND, I wasn't talking about people who need it not limping. I meant that people who ABUSE handicap parking (People who don't need it) should fake a limp. Not the people who can't walk as it is with out some sort of assistance or rest or whatever. If she can't walk further than 100 yards without resting, she obviously won't be doing cartwheels into a store.

Actually she doesn't drive but she has a license. I usually drive her but if she is going in we'll use the spot (remember I do have a limp!) if there is no parking in a reasonable distance. You get that kid? We leave it for those that may need it more. One thing, you should copy your post and in a few years re-read it and see how it sounds because it doesn't put you in a very positive light.

When my wife was alive, she had severe heart problems. She had an installed internal defibrillator, oxygen tanks, and she simply could not walk long distances.
We were VERY appreciative when we were able to find a handicapped spot that was vacant. and after she died I still had her placard hanging from my rear view mirror...it reminded me of her. Anyway, with that placard, technically I could have used the handicapped spot...and probably gotten away with it...but I know what it's like to have a loved one who is deathly ill and can't hardly walk. I too get upset when I see well folks using the spots...
