I'm interested in anyone who performs mental effects in a close up, table hopping or strolling setting. I've seen a couple of effects used effectively (Psychokinetic watch and Flashback book test) but there must be loads of others. Any thoughts?

There are loads of close-up mental routines out there, what specifically do you want to know?

As Paul said, there are tons of close-up mental routines. Find what is right for you and your situations. If you have a more specific question, then let us know.

Many effects can be adapted to strolling. I would suggest looking at Mark Striving's material. Check his archived chef's special "in the freezer" for some discussion about strolling mentalism. Max Maven's Videomind No. 2 is devoted to close-up. Also, search in "Penny for your Thoughts." This topic has been discussed a number of times. Good luck.

With all respect to Stef, please do NOT predict the amount of change in somebody's pocket. The method becomes obvious in this context, which ruins it for worthier experiements.
As mentioned earlier, Mark Strivings is a great source of tablehopping mentalism; I recommend his book, Mobile Mentalism, and the video he made to demonstrate some of this material, W.A.M. (Walk Around Mentalism). The video is available from http://www.floraco.com; the book can be purchased from http://www.hocus-pocus.com. Good luck!

Jay Sankey has some effects on "Sankey's Secret Files" that are well suited to the close-up setting and there are some great mentalism effects in there too. I recommend them!

I sometimes do a simple one ahead effect with a lot of sincerity. I really don't understand how they could not figure it out but they absolutely love it.
Of course I am jaded that way. |

I always thought that mentalism would work really well for walk-around/strolling magic. Are there any good books that have mentalism effects that you can do with ordinary objects close-up. Kind of impromptu.....???

Bill Goldman's "Mental Yarn" is excellent. This effect can be printed on the back of your business card and left with the spectator...Very cool trick

Is that a book or an individual effect?

Someone mentioned somewhere else in this forum that they walk up to a table, write something down on the back of their business card and then ask one person at the table to pick a number between 1 and 100.
Number picked, prediction revealed (correctly of course!), introduction made.

I enjoyed Mark Strivings' Mobile Mentalism book. He explains a bunch of useable material in the book. The main thing he stresses is that the results of the effect should vary - i.e., Invisible Deck works with any card; Flashback works with any page. Since in strolling magic and table hopping a spectator might see you repeat an effect, it's nice for it to "work" again - with a different card (Invisible Deck) or a different word (Flashback). Keep that in mind when you put together a set of strolling mentalism. Frank

You wouldn't think so right off the top of your head, but it's true. That's what lead me to start looking into and ultimately creating a bunch of strolling mentalism many years ago. That, in turn, lead to my book, 'Mobile Mentalism' and 'WAM! Walk-Around Mentalism', the subsequent video. There is a second volume of Mobile Mentalism in the works which will hopefully be published later this year. Not to toot my own horn, BUT "Can you keep a secret" also has, from what I have been told, some excellent close-up/walk around mentalism routines.
