Hey,
I haven’t had any thing called a technical Ryder before but I have done technical requirement specifications before. Bands call there requirements at a venue (usually alcohol) a Ryder so I imagine a technical Ryder would be your tech requirements for performing. Basically what you need to do is write out any things that you need the venue to supply, a good way to start is by giving them a map of the stage space you need and where any power points/ amplification/microphones that you need or don’t supply your self need to go. It can also include information about any rigging, curtain cues, music cues, and backstage requirements like dressing rooms and that sort of thing. It is also if you are doing a stage show it is good to mention how far back you need to audience for safety reasons and things like that. Another thing I have found for stage shows is that it is good to give the stage manager (if there is one) a run down of the rough order of your show with a quick description of each routine that way they don’t get any surprises and freak out thinking that some thing is going wrong when it is actually part of your act. Good Luck |

A technical Rider, is the exact dimensions and ideal condition you need to perform. Make it clear what you are providing, audio, lighting, rigging, scenery, and the space you need.
Example: David Copperfield Rider http://www.thesmokinggun.com/backstagetour/dcopp/dcopp1.html You would need information such as the wattage of light you prefer, the face that you have music, and are providing a player, that you need a soundman, or perfer to have a follow spot. technical riders also involve weight of props (if heavy) Do you need a loading dock, is there a local crew needed to help load your show. That kinda thing. It can be as simple as I requite a 12x12 foot space, with adequate lighting and a small table. |
