Here's a heads up to a cool new PA / Music system from Galaxy Audio..
It's called the Traveler system, is BATTERY OPERATED (rechargeable, holds a charge IN USE for 4-6 hours). Built in CD player, BUILT IN Wireless Mic receiver. The package comes with the wireless mic body pack, too, and that pack has port for AUX IN. Yes, the BODY PACK has the input for the AUX..... You could hook your iPod up to it and change tracks without having to leave your spot on the stage...and not have to mess with your mic... It's a great little system. We've been playing with it at Magic Etc. in Ft. Worth, and it's the favorite portable system right now... :) Just a heads up. http://www.gearwire.com/galaxy-audio-any......amm.html |

That is a very good-looking system. Pretty comparable to my Anchor "Explorer-Pro" with the addition of the CD player and the wireless speaker capability. I didn't find the price on the site anywhere...what's it running with or without the extras?

Not sure about with all the extras, but for one receiver and the Cd/MP3 player, the lowest I've found has been about $999.
I wondered at first why it was so expensive... but keep in mind, it's battery operated... and the sound quality is MOST impressive for a system this size. |

Well, that's really not that bad of a price. The Explorer Pro without the CD player (it does have a 16 channel wireless mic receiver and line out for another speaker and comes with the mic and beltpack) is about $1900 with all the extras. $1000 isn't bad if the quality is good.

It does sound really good. It has a four band EQ and RCA jacks for output to other speakers... according to the website, you can wirelessly link the speakers themselves, as well, and run an entire system off one ...

I saw the ads for this system, it does look interesting, sort of a souped-up PASO ProCast 50 unit(click HERE to compare), which also has a rechargeable battery and many of the same features.
What is the wattage on the Galaxy? I seem to remember that it was 50 watts, which would be pretty decent. The Paso is advertised as a 50-watt unit, but is really only 30 watts. That's still fine for most small shows, but it ain't 50 watts. SETH

Hmmmmmm, the 50-watter weights 27 pounds and needs two 12-volt 2.9Ahr batteries. It has an 8" woofer and a 1" horn, which is nice. The bodyback is rechargeable, which is interesting. I thought most folks recommended not using rechargeables in the bodypack transmitter because they aren't as strong as regular alkaline AA's. I find that one set of AA's gets me through at least two 6-hour pitches, usually with room to spare, and they are certainly cheap enough if you buy a dozen at a time.
Anyway, the 30-watter only weighs 9 pounds, runs for the same 4-6 hours on one charge, and has a 5" speaker. Both models use the same style bodypack, which has a battery indicator (nice!) and 96 selectable frequencies (that seems like overkill to me, I would think a dozen ought to be plenty unless you're playing at an airport or the Pentagon). So I guess it boils down to how much horsepower you need, how much weight you want to carry around, and what you're willing to pay for it. The rechargeable feature definitely adds to the cost, but if you need it, you need it! If anyone is using one of the Galaxy units, please let us know how it's going. SETH
