Just wondering if anyone has ideas for an easy to carry mat to perform the shell game? Something that would pack small. Thanks.

A mouse pad, there are several sizes and you can roll them.

There are some very thin mouse pads available that are made of microfiber (i think) and feel like a suede. I think these would probably work very well. Or find peas that don't require a specific surface. Do the "perfect peas" require a surface of any special type? I'm not sure they do.
Perhaps Whit Haydn or Bob Sheets will chime in and give us their expertise on the matter. Tom Bartlett, btw, has some nice shells that are small enough to use walk around and take up very little room.

I learned the work from Bob Sheets & Whit's DVD's.
I recently purchased Whit's "antique copper" shells and "perfect peas". I was a bit hesitant at first because of the price.....but in my opinion, nice shells make ALL the difference. The peas are good on almost any surface from what I have seen. How many of you perform it? |

When I don't have a close up pad to work with, I compensate by "choking up" on the shells. This helps to cover the tilting during steals and loads.
By "choking up" I mean holding the shell with my fingertips closer to the front of the shell and using my thumb and ring finger to do the dirty work instead of my thumb and middle finger. Just a thought. |

I've used Whit Haydn's street shell / perfect pea with out a mat on a hard surface.

John Cornelius had a small close-up pad that closed up like a book, called the shuffle mat. Here's a link...
