Now that I have got your attention , here is my question:
I am working on a new product based on a routine I have been doing for years with an envelope. I don't want to give away the routine, but essentially it revolves around an old gag shown to me in a bar years and years ago by a non-magician. The gag is you take an envelope and, with a pair of scissors, you turn the envelope into a naked priest. (Again, I can't give too much away here!) My work on this plot takes it to a whole new level and adds a magic theme/effect. My question is, has anyone heard of this gag/premise and/or seen it anywhere in the magic world? I want to give this project the credit it deserves. I also don't want to tread on any toes. Thanks in advance for your help. MJ |

Matt, you pervert you!
I, too, saw this gag years and years ago. I think you're pretty safe, as I've never seen anyone in the magic community use this bit as it is too blue for a lot of folk. I'm anxious to see what you've come up with for it.

I never heard of it. I can't think of how an envelope turns into naked priest or even think what a naked priest would look like....honest!
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

Turning an envelope into a naked priest... Is that when you put too little in the envelope or too much?
Off-color stories come to mind here. I'll leave the "confessions" revealed by way of a swami thingy for another time. Play nice.
...to all the coins I've dropped here

I've seen this done. It's pretty funny. It's going to be an interesting effect, but you'll have a limited audience due to the "sexual" nature of the gag.

Thanks guys for your thoughts!
Payne, good to hear from you buddy. I thought this may interest your twisted sense of humour (from one crazy guy to another). Greg I agree that you cannot do this for children's parties but for bars and I would even go as far as to say some corporate events this would be great. It's got that visual impact that draws gasps and belly laughs at the same time. Throw the magic aspect on top and this is a winner. It has worked well for me and it's a routine that I have closely guarded for many years, even from my friends in the magic industry. I am thinking of releasing this as a one trick DVD. However it will have not only the original gag, but a magic routine with the naked priest and then an altered version with a naked magician that is the same effect but with a slightly changed envelope. I will also include other ideas and possibly one that is not x-rated, not as funny but still visually cool I think! I am working on this project over the next couple of months so I will keep you posted. Cheers, MJ |

Sounds like fun. Just don't do it around any altar boys... they'll have flashbacks!
