Personally out of all the trick deck I would have figured the stripper deck to be the least know for laypeople, but a friend of mine who is a fulltime pro (busking/private gigs) told me through the years he must have had the following happen at least 100 times. when the spec was asked to shuffle the pack, they would take one card, turn it around and do the "stripping" action. when it didn't work they were shocked ( he never uses trick decks ).
any similar experience? thoughts? comments? I was pretty shocked to hear that |

I can honestly say I've never had this and I only use a stripper deck - even for regular effects that don't need one. I use good quality USPCC decks, keep hold of them, shuffle well to satisfy the spectator, and get on with things. They watch me not the deck

There are more options for stripper decks than the wedge strippers being referred to.
Belly Strippers, either "in" or "out". Very deceptive when made by hand, and totally unknown to laymen. Belly's don't depend on the card being turned around, and can be made in an ultra-fine cut. (very different use and handling than a wedge stripper, technically capable of much more). End Strippers, will do everything a wedge stripper (hindu) will do, but with the work being put in on the ends of the deck only. This deck is not something that laymen have seen. End strippers are not my favorite, but more than usable for certain situations. There are also cuts of standard wedge (hindu) strippers that are in the ultra-fine cut category. These cuts are IMPOSSIBLE for a laymen to pull. These are always made by hand, one card at a time. Not available off the shelf. Strippers are untouchable in terms of what they are capable of. Folks just need to remember that there is a lot more to them than a standard pack of factory Bicycle strippers (a medium cut) that anybody can pull, and most anybody can see if they look. When the work on any sort of stripper deck is fine enough (always hand made), you'd be hard pressed to find a more powerful tool. Strippers are not represented by a deck of medium cut Bicycles from the factory........there's much more deception to be had. And then there's N-Strippers........ |

Oh I agree silverking, sal picante showed me a stripper deck he made by hand that was undetectable. I couldn't even use it when I tried, you have to use a certain touch, it was very cool. its still interesting to me that the deck is that well known to the public though.

I've had the same thing occur. Guys will take a card and turn it to see if it strips. Generally these are guys that have had a past interest in magic (even if they just owned one trick deck). If your friend has been performing for years and it only happened a hundred times then I wouldn't worry about it. I know I don't, but been a decade or more since I've used a decent stripper... deck that is.

Joshua,
Maybe the Stripper Decks were sold in a toy store or at the dollar stores. I have seen cheap and crappy and I mean cheap and crappy versions there (as well as Svengalli Decks, cups and balls, drawer boxes and even plastic linking rings). |

Pretty much any friend I have who has had some experience with magic as a kid is familiar with the medium cut stripper. It's just so widely available and magic shops sell them like hotcakes to newbies. I like the more advanced suggestions though. If I were going to use one seriously I would think about those.
