Here's a question for anybody who may have an answer-about the internet : - )
I use the internet ALOT (although I'm not the most tech savvy person). I recently purchased a wireless internet USB modem. I was hoping for unlimited internet usage (to include downloading) per month for a flat fee but unfortunately they only offer up to 5 GB's per month before overage charges apply(per megabyte-w.e. that is...) So here's my question- What's streaming video? Is going to a website like youtube considered downloading or streaming video? Will it be apparent if I'm "streaming video"? Just thought I'd ask you guys before I have to call the company and sound ignorant. TIA for any help you may be able to provide. ALL THE BEST, magicianguy4life |

The same amount of data is transferred either way. Generally a stream is lower quality than a normal downloaded video. 'Download'ed videos are usually higher quality and meant to be watched later. Hope this helps a little. |

Magicianguy4life-
Everything you view on the internet needs to be downloaded to your computer in order to display it- including youtube, including your email, including all the text on this web site. Fortunately, 5 gigs is a lot of data. Don't start downloading any DVDs, and you should probably be okay. If you're worried, there's probably a way on your provider account page to list your current usage to make sure you don't go over the limit. -Erik

It's all bandwidth (regardless of whether you're "downloading to keep" or "downloading to use for a moment" (as in the case of streaming video).
You might want to look for a better deal - 5g is a lot for many people, not a lot for an increasing number. |
