A friend as given me an effect he calls Belly Strippers, but it has no instructions with it.
It consists of 2 packs of cards. Any ideas as to where I can get some ideas, or obtain some instructions for it? Do many of you use it? I have never seen it in action.
7o but rocking on

It kind of depends on how the 'Belly Strippers' are cut. Are you familiar with a 'Stripper Deck'? It's kind of the same thing but made a little differently.
I use a Belly Stripper deck to perform the George Sands - Out of this World effect. I'm sure there are other effects as well. Quote:

I sell belly strippers that my father (George Sands) created - I have the dies as well.
There are two routines my father did with the belly strippers, one was "Out of this world" and the other was an ESP Effect he called "Extra Sandsational Perception", where the deck is shuffled thoroughly by a volunteer and cut (stripped) and then two people sort their halves of the deck. Very rapidly, you can tell each person what cards they are holding with a simple system easy to remember my father created. with two decks, you can remove any card and replace it with the opposite card and find that card easily so you can do an ambitious card routine or a split card trick. the ways of using belly strippers is fairly limitless for forcing, finding and sorting a deck or a few select cards. |

I have a suggestion for you. First of all, do you do gambling demonstrations or effects with riffle shuffle work? Cutting the aces?
If not, trade them to someone who does. For most basic magic, those cards really don't offer much help. There is also the fact that they will soon wear out, and then what? Belly strippers are used, and used to be used even more, by professional card cheats. You can take the cards that you want to control from one deck and put them in the other pack and find them in the process of cutting and/or riffle shuffling. That is their basic use in gambling. The fact that they are belly strippers and not just regular tapered strippers means that they will pass casual inspection. They have value and depending on who cut them, are possibly worth between $50 and $100.00. If they are cut poorly, then they probably aren't worth using. They are fun to play with and who knows, maybe you will find a use for them. Mr. Sands post above lists two very good uses for these cards. By the way, I love your father's rope routine! I use portions of it anytime I do stand up. But as far as I know, nobody really uses them in day-to-day work unless they are doing a gambling exhibition. Just my $.02.
It's never crowded on the extra mile....

Alan,
I had the pleasure of buying mine from your father a few years ago. What a wonderful person! Always eager to teach and show me stuff. These days I'm enjoying his rope books. johnnyboy, the belly stripper is unique and if you take the time and learn the feel you can do some great magic. Oz Perlman has a new DVD that deals with stripper deck work. |
