Well it gives me great pleasure to tell you all that Mano Tejeda has released his first Manuscript of his Three-Fly Routine.
Mano has teamed up with Greg Webb to create this. Greg did all the illustrations and let me tell you from one Illustrator to another the Drawings are beautiful. I know what your thinking how is this version different then any other. Well Mano teaches his DATA sleight that make this different in handing but keeps the routine true to the plot. This is a non-gaff version that if your a magician you would swear he uses a gaff of some sort. I was never a big fan of the tree fly routines until Mano showed me his handling. One issue I had with Tree Fly Routines were how they are not done really at the finger tips the second third and pinkie are always curled in due to the handling of the coins. Mano's isn't that way you can really do the whole routine at the finger tips and have your palms open to the spectators the whole time He uses a grip he calls the Pyramid Grip combine that with his DATA sleight and you have a truly Three Fly routine at the Fingers tips. It a thing of beauty. When Mano showed me his DATA sleight my mind went nuts. I took Routine I do and used this sleight instead of others and it made my existing routine even that much stronger. and even created of few new ones. Mano is a true thinker creator of this art, this is just one little thing out of many he will be teaching us. For information on how to get his manuscript contact Mano himself here at the café. Mano thank you for this opportunity to tell the magic community about this great Routine. A must have !!!!!!! Tim

I heartily agree... Mano's work is super smooth! The Pyramid Grip and DATA sleight are well worth checking out. Great thinking.

Heys guys I could not find a vid of Mano doing his Three Fly he took it down. This is what I did with it after learning it. Remember I added alittle bit of me into the routine so its not how Mano does it but I used the sleights that are taught in his Manucript.
Just to give an idea of how it might look. Tim http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sp29BBG6EM4

When did Mano release this? Where can I find it? Yeah he showed me the routine as well as all the moves over a year ago I think but I still want to have a copy. I think Mi hermano has forgot all about his moreno hermano.

Tim, I just watched your video of it, the slights themselves look very nice, but I didn't understand the structure of the coins start in the left, never fully make it to the right, reverse course, and go back to the left. It's a coins across that never actually go across. Is that in the manuscript? Was there an explanation on the thinking behind it?

I didn't know Mano had released this yet but it is absolutely brilliant thinking, with a host of new looks and applications on things. Mano is a tremendous talent, along the lines of a Bertini. He's doing stuff that everybody ain't doing, not even thinking of. This is "other level" stuff. Don't believe me...Let a respected guy like Bertini take a look at it and see what he says. Or ask another brilliant young gun here like Eric Jones what he thinks about Mano and his magic. Go ahead, ask'em.
Anyway, "Mano-A-Mano" is just the tip of the iceberg from this brother. More later...Over and out!

Hey Tim, thanks for the reply, I just thought maybe there was a reasoning I wasn't catching, no need to call yourself an idiot over it! LOL

Hi Everyone,
I want to thank my friend Tim for the review and the rest of you guys for your kind words,i really apprecite them. The manuscript is almost there, but not yet, there are some drawings that really need to be fixed, otherwise the reader of it will have some problems understanding how Pyramid Data really works, especially during each tranfer. But now for the second time Greg Webb can not to finish it,and right now I am somewhat in limbo: I just got really busy around the time we planed to make this manuscript,so Greg and I did not see each other that much; we met a couple of times at Fantasma and there I showed him the handling of the 3fly which he suggested I called it Mano a Mano,i went home, he went home;so he has been mailing me pages of the manuscript as he finished them ever since, then I were review them, call him and let him know what needed to be fixed etc;when Greg Webb was half way with it,he suggested that I sent a video clip of the routine to Richard Kaufman,so I did that,Richard sent me an e-mail that he liked the routine and asked me if he could publish it in Genii, I talked with Greg about it and he said that it was good to do so; Greg thought Richard was going to use his Drawings when Richard were to publish the routine but he told Greg he was gonna used David Acer drawings instead,Greg got disapointed and droped our project,so I decided to ask Richard not to publish the routine,so that way Greg could finish it and give it a go,well Greg did finish the routine and sent me the 9 pages of it,but I saw some drawings that really needed to be fixed, I called him and we talked about it and he suggested that I send a couple of copies to magicians to check it out and see what they thought of it, so I sent a few,and one of them to my friend Tim which it is the only one out there doing the routine that far,Tim checked it out liked it and reviewed it. I want to apologize to all of you because I still believe the drawings need to be fixed, but Greg now has some Family matters and won't be able to finish them sometime soon. I have being writting this post for almost two hrs, just to get it somewhat readible, that can tell you how bad I am with a keyboard,so now my plan is to try to find someone in my neighborhood who can help me write the manuscript in the PC along with pictures for the illustrations instead of Greg's drawings and make it a PDF file. Once again my apologies and I do hope to get it out,i just do not know how soon it will be. Peace out there. Mano. P.S. Nothing comes easy in My life. |

Don't worry Mano, this is too great an effect to be stopped by a few drawings. I do understand you being above board with Greg...Good lookin' out for the guy. But Genii is a great resource and well-respected outlet for your work, especially something as clever and new as "Mano-A-Mano." Perhaps a call back to Kaufman as to where you are with this now might rekindle the connection and get this professionally done and out there in an even bigger way as to your work. *Just a thought but please speak to our brother Eric Jones as to these larger hi-ways & bi-ways that have made so immediately made themselves available to you.
Also, using photos instead of drawings is easy enough to do, as you can see with no experience I was able to effectively put them in my new "Egg Roll..." download. Truly anyone with a video cam can do it, snap the shots and copy and paste them into a word document, before having it set as a pdf. Not difficult stuff at all. You're gonna laugh one day at truly how easy this is to do. Another suggestion as to the writing, which isn't bad at all as is, is to check with Famiglia brothers, Eric Jones and Rannie Raymundo. Both are computer savvy and have produced work in various ways and could certainly help with this. As to using drawings, well you need someone that can draw and that might be a hard thing to find, though our buddy Bill Citino used some great drawings in his book "Coinsomnia" marvelously done by a Justin P. Vitti...Perhaps Bill could speak to you about it if you really want to go that way. But to me, photos are easy enough to do...Heck, I shot the ones I used all by myself and they came out pretty good. Not to mention that they are exactly as I do the effect in showing the moves, no drawings to misinterpret, it is what it is exactly as I do it. I used about 20 photos, that I shot as per the effect start to finish in just a few minutes time. A little copy and paste, some resizing of the pics and it was put and done inside the working document. Which I then very simply made into a pdf. Of course another way to get the pics done is to simply have someone shoot you doing it and then download the pics onto the computer and basically manipulate them as I already described. That works too. Oh and sometimes I know you might need a hand in certain shots, but in most of these little computer video cam programs, they come with a timer that allows you time to pose before the shot is snapped. Solves the problem of needing any extra assistance very nicely. Personally, I had none. I kid you not, I shot 20 photos (in vivid color) in a few minutes and about a hour after that they were fully incorporated into the manuscript. I even used one of the photos on the cover. And mind you, I'm no expert at doing this stuff. But what I know for sure is that you don't have to be one to effectively get it done and do it pretty well. Sure, if you got the bucks you can get it all professionally done (And you're already a bit ahead of all that as the professionals want to do it all for you, i.e., Ricahrd Kaufman & Genii), but I really enjoyed putting my stuff all together from scratch, figured it all out and made it progressively better every time out. Everything you need pretty much already comes on your computer if you check. Those little video cams are inexpensive and come with programs that allow you to shoot movies and snapshots. Most people have Windows Movie Maker to create the vids, either imported from a computer cam or a video camera. The computer cam is the simplest way and works well enough really if you do it right. Also, most video cams also snap photos as well. Of course you have Word to create a document, or some sort of word processesor. Well, that's all you need really. You can do all this stuff yourself, I've done it many times already. Also, you can just do the videos...Many people do and do not do manuscripts and it works pretty well that way too. Our buddy Tim Feher does it that way and does it well. I've done it both ways and succeeded. You can do it too my friend and you will. I'm sure our community here will not let you down. -Mb

Mano was kind enough to send me the manuscript. unfortantly I have not had the time to give it the attendtion it deserves, my intital impression is very positive. the move mano developed iv never seen in a 3 fly routine. the artist that mano usedc for the drawlings did very well. I saw he mentioned some mistake but like I said if only read over it and took note of some concepts. I think its going to be a winner, and is denfinitly something I will be putting in queue for my close up work. ( I mostly get stand up shows, so sometime it takes a while =/ )
good job mano |
