Ive got a really nice idea for a gimmick deck, but I don't really know how to create it, its just an idea, can some1 help. This is how it goes, you have them pick a card and you put it back in the deck and you fan out the deck and there card has turned to another color. ill show my idea on you tube so you ppl can help me either improve on it or tell me if is good or not. o.O

Do you mean the color of the back has changed? This can already be done with an ungimmicked deck (with one small addition). Check into "Red Hot Mama (Chicago Opener)." It not only does what you propose but it has a second phase with a killer transposition and the cards are not gimmicked.

I alrEADY KNOW HOW TO DO THAT TRICK, I'm sayin you fan out deck, they pick a card, then they put it backin in, you fan out deck again and you have them check out the card, no double lifts or anyting, and its another color, the " best card trick in the world" is lame.

Hmm...lets think for a minute here. Your idea is basically the first phase of the Chicago Opener. Yet you call the Chicago Opener lame? So is your version lame as well?
The fact that your version doesn't require a double lift is irrelevant. To the audience it's the same exact thing. Why gimmick a whole deck when you could add ONE card to a normal deck and do a better effect anyway? Also, perhaps you could show some appreciation when someone tries to help you out like Bob did, rather than stating their recommendation is "lame". -T.J. |

Mr. Moose...maybe you should read through the Café for a few days and get a feel for what goes on around here. Granted,Ive made some comments that have put some members in a defensive mode, but your response to magicbob indicates more ignorance than insightfulness. Hopefully you will become a valuable addition to these forums and your effect can evolve into a nice performance piece through the input of magicians who really want to help.

Just as a sidenote...is Red Hot Mama the same thing as "The Chicago Opener?" I've seen the first performed in some respect, and heard of the second. Is the "Opener" a multi-phase version of the first trick?

I'm interested in seeing the video... maybe he has something great here! It seems it would be hard to create a new gaff deck, but do-able!

I'd be interested in seeing it as well...just to see if it is any different than the first phase of what magikmoose is calling a "lame" trick.

Post the video, let us see it. But it sounds like a useless addition to an already existing trick to me.

Before you waste too much time on this thread, drop by Mr. Moose's other 4 posts for a quick read, especially the one where he's seen a marketed effect on YouTube, and has signed up as a Café user in order to request a "tutorial".
