Mike:
Have you taken it outside on a windy day? Two possible issues I see right off the bat: one is the kite factor, the other is rain factor. Tony |

Looks great I think it would work great in doors.

I had it outside, but not on a windy day yet. The fabric stays on by tight elastic. It comes off to pack inside the case for traveling. The close-up pad is not attached yet. I might use velcro to have it stay on from the wind. I am not thinking the wind will blow the table down. Because of the loose fabric, it would move only, not the table.
I got the idea from Chris Capehart. His fabric stays on by velco when set up. He does do shows inside and outside using the fabric attached to his table. We did a show together a couple of weeks ago. He had no problem with his even though it was a windy day. If the wind is too strong for the fabic on windy days, or if it is raining, I will perform it without the fabric by keeping it inside the tool box. Underneath is an aluminum tool box from Home Depot. One good thing about the fabric is the refection during movement. It will gain more attention because of the movement. |

A few fishing weights in the bottom hem of that fabric, Mike, and it will stay down fairly well on windy days.

Yea, that should work. I was also setting the tripod on top of the fabric on the ground. A five pound weight will be good to put on the leg connection of the tripod to keep the table from falling over.
I really bet I will not be performing anything on a high windy or rainy day because the crowd will be inside anyway. |

This is what wind does to a table:
Now that's a heavy table made of wood on four wheels ... you have a kite attached to a three legs - if you take that out on a windy day, its going down - especially if you end up moving to Chicago. Wind is your #1 problem when working outdoors, it is worst than rain in my opinion. -JoeJoe

I do have a type of table like that too. The wind never blew it down in Metro Detroit yet. The only problem I had with it possible falling is from the level of the ground. I always make sure it never leans forward. One time the wind blew my Bunny Box with my Eureka Table down before. By the time I move to Chicago, I'll think of something.

With all due the respect I think your choice of fabric is horrible. I do not like how it looks and personally I will get rid of the skirt all together. I am a big fan of the waiter stand. But hey...you know what they say, if you are happy with it, that is all it counts.

The fabric would be the least of my concern.
It looks like your base is a simple aluminum stand like that a musician would use for their music. One of the reason the waiters traystands work so well is because they give a wider base, and with a heavier top, make them less prone to tipping in wind. Try it. But do let us know if you get a gust of wind that takes it down, and with it your show. Good luck.

I'll go along with the comments on the fabric.. Better to have a plain colour - and I always go for black.
It DOES look like it could be unstable in a wind - but looks just fine for indoor stuff. I'd be interested to know how you overcome problems in the wind.... Cheers! DCB

I think it looks good. I second the Idea of weights in the hem of the "skirt" I think the sewing supply places sell them for curtains.
If you are worried about it tipping over, just tie some of those work out ankle weights to the bottom tripod legs. Now, Go ahead and start working out because we've just added 20 lbs to your rig |

It looks like the Chris Capehart design that he's used for years.
I personally don't like the design because you have to keep lifting up the lid but if it works for you it is a convenient design that I know Capehart loves. Best of luck with your rig. When I go out I load up a small steel suitcase carrier with: table top wooden waiters stand pouch table servante water I bungee it up and wheel it to the pitch. Very comfortable.

Dynamike, trust me wind is a tricky thing and a small gust can tip your table.
The split seam will allow wind to enter and do a parachute type action. I've had the same thing happen to me in San Francisco on a "calm" day. You may want to consider reducing the length of the drape. Also a suitcase table can get away from you in the wind, not always tipping over but moving and turning spilling props at the same time. In either case once this happens you can forget about tips people just walk away laughing at you.

I did set up a different table. One reason is because it gives me more room with a bigger case. The other reason is because the side shelves can be put up to hold my rabbit or additional props so I will not have any trouble opening the case without any props on top of it. It folds flat. The case and table can go on my dolly together. I was thinking about putting a skirt around it so it can hide the dolly, PA system, etc. http://s38.photobucket.com/albums/e150/D......20Table/
