Long but revealing. This will tell you what it REALLY going on a few miles south. A few pages later in the magazine was a large ad from the Mayor of Rosarito Beach welcoming folks to a safe holiday...uh...ok...

Well I lived in S.D. for a while and Ortega's was the place to go for Lobster dinner! Two whole Lobsters and all the rice, beans and tortillas you could eat for $4.99! Corona (before they became a U.S. sensation)and Pacifico beers were 75 cents. Man I loved it!
The bad thing was trying to get there! You had to make it through TJ. and to the toll road without getting pulled over by the policia. Once you made it to the toll road, it was pretty much clear sailing. It got so bad for a while that we had to stop driving at first, then stop going all together. Man I miss those days... I'll read the story tomorrow. Hasta Leuago! |

Well, I'd never visit Tijuana these days. According to the article Doug posted, not everyone feels that way:
- Reuters reports that a record number of San Diegans are risking the dangers of Tijuana to take advantage of the cheaper gas prices. A retired California engineer tells a Reuters reporter, "It's worth taking the risk even with the violence. I know they could kill me or kidnap me, but the cost of filling my tank in the United States is just too much." - That sort of puts an interesting spin on things. Anyway, I think some of the comments (the personal anecdotes) make better reading than the article itself.
Make America Great Again! - Trump in 2020 ... "We're a capitalistic society. I go into business, I don't make it, I go bankrupt. They're not going to bail me out. I've been on welfare and food stamps. Did anyone help me? No." - Craig T. Nelson, actor.

I live in Guadalajara and I stay the hell out of the border towns. Further south, the Mexicans are good people. Along the border, they get kind of weird. There is a drug war going on in Mexico now. Some places are struggling. Stay out of them, especially if you're with your family.
Will you walk into my parlour? said the Spider to the Fly,
Tis the prettiest little parlour that ever you did spy; The way into my parlour is up a winding stair, And I've a many curious things to show when you are there. Oh no, no, said the little Fly, to ask me is in vain, For who goes up your winding stair -can ne'er come down again. |

I almost had to go to the border to fight it out with Mexican customs. Luckily I was fired before then. Guadalajara is bueno, good folks there. The thing that breaks my lil' heart is the folks from the rest of Mexico who might want to visit the US often get stuck in the border towns and are victimized. I remember what my grandfather the great revolutionary said "It is better to kill someone who is on their feet than to just mearly kick them over when they are on their knees"

No better in Juarez, headline of El Paso paper this week was 700 murdered in Juarez (this year so far) 25 since August (that was like on the 10th of August). Sad part is it keeps spilling over to this side of the river.
"Now here's the man with the 25 cent hands, that two bit magician..."

Balducci...you usually sink a bit in trying to be contrary to whatever I post but quoting a certified MORON:
"It's worth taking the risk even with the violence. I know they could kill me or kidnap me, but the cost of filling my tank in the United States is just too much." and presenting his stupidity as an 'interesting spin' is 'much' and a 'reach' even for you...the quote is from an idiot not a renegade concensus, who's value of his own life is put at about 20 bucks. If you want interesting spins, you should read the letters to the editor on a regular basis from victims. The article was no more than a calender of shame for that city and the corrupt Mexican Govt. We used to love to go there and I feel greatly for the folks we got to know that were business people and just plain nice to visit and especially the good cops that like dedicated police everywhere are really up against it and losing their lives on a regular basis. The solution will be a brutal and somewhat avoidence of law to stage a military invasion and clean the place out. Understand, the bad guys are fully uniformed heavily armed 'commando' units that are operating almost at will. Some even have armored personel carriers. Police chiefs and officials don't stand a chance these days either. Shot in broad daylight one after another. If you look at photos of the tourist street 'Revolucion' nearly 90% of the once thriving store fronts are now boarded up. Tourism has dropped in the 90 percentile. There is no !@#$%^& spin. This scenerio is also cropping up in the more well traveled tourist havens and mexican Riviera destinations. The good people of Mexico are surrounded and under siege. This activity has also moved and has a foothold in Los Angeles as well and the gangs control entire areas of the city with sympathisers on city councils and questionable activities by small town police as well. (Los Angeles is made up of numerous small municipalities.) The article is an in your face series of DATES and non debatable occurances of murder and in many cases torture and rape. There is no spin. Especially from an idiot.

Get a grip, Doug, don't pop a vein, and for the last time get over your obsession with me.
If you disagree with what that guy wrote, take it up with HIM and not with me. Hey, I agree he seems to be a moron. It's still interesting to me that some people would feel like he does. Sorry if you are not interested in examining other people's points of view. Like I said before, I'd never visit Tijuana these days (in light of the crime in the region). Members of my family used to live (back in the 80s / early 90s) in Brownsville, Texas, in a home right next to a (well, an 'alleged') major drug lord. There seemed to be more than enough crime there for my tastes, I can't imagine what it is like in border towns on the other side of the border. But some of the comments posted to the article you linked to, some of the personal anecdotes and so on, ARE interesting ... even if you happen to disagree with them. Again, sorry if you don't think so.

I wonder what the moron drives? I hope it is a hummer or something worth getting filled up in Mexico.

Get over MY obsession with YOU? hahaha. It is to laff. Stalker.
There was no vein popping, my response was calm and thoughtful, I just disagree with your 'interesting spin' comment. Seriously though, I think there is a bit too much examining of stupid points of view...hand over credibility that an idiot is as valid as somebody with good sense? Some 'other' points of view are just worthless at the get go and we seem to have forgotten that in a politically correct atmosphere...when a simple 'Get lost' will do. Maybe I'm just sick of all the ignorant comments dropped in at YouTube and at Blogs by total idiots as if they have valid points to insert and move a conversation or premise ...you can find them interesting if you like.
