Ok here the thing, I got in over my head and now I'm into deep to get out. A friend at the magic club had an idea he is getting a big check in the fall from a well known org. that I check out and he said he would pay me back if I loaned him some money to get his show stated. But it looks like I'm going to get stuck for over a grand. This is a expensive lesson to me.
To be honest I liked the idea that I would be in a show with the big props, up till now I had only been doing birthday parties and walk around. I now feel that giving the advice don't use yuour own money is not only somthing that I should have listened to but, give to others. To be frank I just don't even feel like doing any more magic. So am I the only dumb one out there? |

The call it show BIZ for a reason...
As a "promoter/producer", you've got to be able to handle the risks of speculation. And never risk money you cannot afford to lose. Knowing and using your legal recourse is also wise. I hear "The People's Court" is always interested in civil cases that have interesting premises: "The Case of the Disappearing Magic Show" has a certain ring to it... Look into it! A grand might seem like a lot of money, especially if you're young, but it's really not that much in the greater scheme of things. Don't let this bad experience ruin you to magic. Just be careful lending money in the future under ANY circumstances.

"I lent some money
To a friend. I lost my money, And my friend." My policy- never loan money to a buddy. It's better to give it as a gift, and expect nothing in return. -Erik

Right on... if you EVER lend money for ANY reason - consider it a gift. If you're ever repaid, consider it a windfall.
