Can anyone tell me where I can get the large professional size Punch & Judy puppets with the wooden heads? Also is there a classified area on the Café' where these shows are bought and sold, used equiptment , stages, sound, etc.?
Any help would be appreaciated. Thanks ROD |

Sorry I don't know about Punch & Judy Puppets with wooden heads.
I only saw some plastick heads for kids in toy store, several years ago. But maybe you can contact marionette or vent figures maker to do that for you. Yes, we have a forum, Let's Make a Magic Deal, but you should post more than 50 posts, before you can open that forum. And you close to it right now! |

There are a number of carvers of Punch figures in the UK and they tend to supply the world. Their styles vary somewhat so look around and take your time deciding on a style with which you feel comfortable. You must like your Punch, Judy and Joey. The other characters have to please you but the main trio will become extensions of you as you work them and if your are ambivalent about them they'll never work properly. Take a look http://www.punchandjudy.com/index.htm#menutop and you'll find here all you'll need initially and the carvers contact details are there too, along with pictures of their work. Where in the world are you located?

Be careful buying second hand. A good way to buy - most of us do buy some things s/h - but be careful to know exactly what you are getting.
Booths or frames are made to measure the original owner. height dimension is critical especially with hands above style. The top of the playboard must be at least an inch higher than the top of your head. if he was 5 feet 9 inches and you are 6 feet you're going to have a problem. Hands in front may be slightly less of a problem provided you are smaller than the original owner. If you are taller it's not likely to fit. As for figures, be prepared to have to redress them. Many if not most are not dressed terribly well and are unlikely to suit you. Once you have worked figures in made to measure dresses which fit your hands and arms, you are unlikely to be comfortable with dresses the figures arrive in. In fact, if I bought in a new figure from a carver I would buy the head and hands and dress the figure to suit. That way you maintain a uniformity of fit and a cohesive style across the suite of figures.
