It seems that some trick manufacturers pad prices by selling you "supplies" from your nearest office supply store as part of their hundred-dollar-+ tricks, while others are content with the royalties from selling you a DVD which tells you how to make a trick, offers the trick separately for a reasonable price, and gives you the choice. I am thinking here of creators like Bill Abbott (who has a DVD where he shows you how to assemble Chico the Chimp and lays out the routine basics, and gives you details on how to make The Thing), and Martin Lewis, who has a DVD where he shows you how to make Cardiographic (which he also sells). True, some may only produce the DVDs after they think they've saturated the market with sales of the actual trick or trick "kit," but nonetheless they should be lauded.
As a means of combatting the excesses of some trick creators who send you office supply materials for you to assemble, with a good DVD perhaps, after charging you a couple hundred bucks, I propose we mention them here. This will thank them, offer tribute to the business model of Abbott and Lewis, which may or may not net them the most short-run $$$, but would seemingly get them a lot of gratitude, good will, and return business. It will also allow the thrifty among us to be aware of DVD options for some expensive tricks we may not have known about. Can anyone come up with more?
