As Andre said, the complete works of Alex Elmsley really are a must have. Not only are the tricks good, but the work on the Faro shuffle is really brilliant (volume 2), they are written really well by Stephen Minch.

"The types of books I'm looking for is mainly stuff with original presentations, and maybe new methods... I also prefer stuff that's a bit more on the easier side... Not that I can't do the hard stuff, I just can't do the hard stuff and think at the same time.." I strongly recommend "The Card Magic of Nick Trost" which relies on sublety as opposed to sleights. I believe this is the type of card book you are looking for. Rennie
The effect is the important thing, how you achieve it is not.......

Other Ortiz books, At the card table and Scams and Fantasies are both also very good. Also all Jim Swains material with cards is must have.

Hands down, John Bannons Smoke and Mirror's book is the best card book I've came across. Just reading the descriptions gave me the chills. The ideas are ingenious. However, the book is out of print. Look to spend around $50.00 for a copy if you can find one. Good luck.
As an alternative, buy his DVD's which are still in print. Smoke and Mirrors and Impossibilia. Both cover a portion of both of his books. |

Bob Linds, and all,
Thank you. Much appreciated! I will start saving for those..wow, quite a few in the Card College series...(let's see $35+ apiece...yike! Gotta get me another part-time job...)... May I suggest, "Counts, Cuts, Moves & Subtlety" by Jerry Mentzer? Just found that in my box of books...almost forgot about it...a true gem! Thanks again! Doug |
