Over the past couple months, I have noticed that levitation is slowly becoming a dead magical effect.
Many people have come to the conclusion that it is phsycally impossible for a human being to levitate off the ground. And thanks to shows like the Fox Specials, Balducci and his friends have become all but extinct. By saying this, I mean that even though many great magicians still use these effects in their shows, many people are now aware of how they are done. My point is that, something which was once so powerful, is starting to become weak. I believe we as magicians should come together as a WHOLE!! and make a new, powerful, the most powerful Levitation in the entire world. Feedback please.
It's like that? I guess it's like that! OH YEAH!!! YEAH!! - wait, what are we talking about?

I did the balducci for 5 different people today. All were amazed. It would seem to suggest that this 'public perception' only exists in self-concious mind of magicians.

valid point nitram. I could be scared to perform it based upon the fact that some people know it.
It would be interesting to hear how others feel...

Here's a thought. Why don't we expose what will happen on the series on FOX. Then they will get to taste theire own medecine. I don't think it's dead art. I don't think people believed that magicians could really fly. Not because of FOX. It's logical. No one can fly.

The problem with many levitations is that there being over used, so to say. The Blaine special introduced it to the world, then hundreds of copycat Blaines did it unskillfully and exposed the secret. Combine this with the many times it is being done, and you have an overused trick. Just like when a song gets bad because the radio plays it too often.

I use the balducci. For the sceptics I follow up with The Elevator. Never been busted and other people who hear about it (third party) keep coming up to me asking me to show them.
The Elevator completely destroys anyone that suggests I use the 'exposed' move. |
