Slayers and their Vampires: A Cultural History of Killing the Dead by Bruce McClelland
Didn't read it yet, but the book is ordered. http://www.press.umich.edu/titleDetailDesc.do?id=22395 |

Fasinating. I wonder how many mentally ill people (or perhaps those with blood disorders?) have been murdered through the over enthusiastic attentions of the so called 'vampire slayer'? We hear about people being persecuted for witchcraft but we don't hear so much about vampires and my feeling is that the archetypal notion of the vampire has been around in some form or another for a long time in all cultures. An unhealthy (fearful) obsession with the dead and with corpses may well have led some people to become a 'vampire slayer' in days of old.
Thanks for the link Curator. |

Personally speaking I always supported Spike. He was the best thing on that show. Looked like a decadant version of Billy Idol in his prime.

If you like reading about Vampires I suggest "Fevre Dream" by the great George R.R. Martin. its set on a paddle steamer.

So who is the disturbed one -- the Goth, who thinks he is a vamp or the Slayer who does him in?
Rhetorical question. No answer necessary.

That's a good book Curator, my girlfriend went to college with Bruce and was one of the people he had read/comment on early drafts, she's in the acknowledgments.
