Guys, I'm interested in doing a lecture on female magicians for my local library. I've been racking my brains trying to find info on the web about them; there is really not that much on them. Any websites would be greatly appreciated, anything past and/or present. I'm hoping to put together some sort of a time-line on how women are evolving in this field as well.

A major search engine, like Google, should give you some leads.

Or you might want to start with the following site:

http://www.jrn.columbia.edu/studentwork/....../192.asp

It should give you a few names to kick off your hunt.

Peter, that's just the thing. I've done countless searches on Google, but not much has shown up.

Also that name, Peter Marucci. I know I've heard it elsewhere. Can you tell me a little about yourself? Maybe I can figure out where I've heard of you.

Well, the name is certainly familiar to me; I've had it for more than 60 years! Smile

Okay, let's get serious!

I write the Showtime column in the Linking Ring magazine and have for the past 10 or 12 years; I also write a monthly routine in Visions e-zine http://www.online-visions.com in my Bizarre Bazaar section; and I do pieces for Bizarre Magick.com http://www.bizarremagick.com and Dragonskull http://www.dragonskull.co.uk/entrance.htm and spend far too much time on various magic message boards, including this one.

I've been in magic for more than half a century and for the past eight years have gone on tour with a different lecture each year.

Finally (and aren't you sorry you asked!), the late, great Tony Slydini— arguably the world's greatest close-up performer ever— was a cousin of mine; according to Tony (whose real name was Quintino Marucci) his father and my grandfather were brothers and they both left Italy at about the same time.

(Now you're REALLY sorry you asked!) Smile

Hi Monte,
I seem to remember that the IBM url also had a link to female magicians. It's been awhile since I've checked it out so I may be wrong.
Good luck in your search. Smile

Peter, that would explain it, you've been around. I knew I heard of you, thanks! And thanks C, talk to you in Magic Talk!

P.S. Peter, since you are famous, can I get an autograph?

I know Julie Sobanski is in the process of writing a book on female magicians. You might try contacting her. Her website is http://www.juliesobanski.com

Margarette
(now reminded that she needs to get her "interview" finished and returned to Julie ASAP!)
The only stupid question is the one not asked.

Monte,
I assume you are kidding, at least about the "famous" part!

Hey, I find all my info on female magicians in that book How to Make a Female Magician Fall in Love With You in 1 Easy Step.

The problem is, that step is "fugget about it".
I have the breath of dragons and the soul of a human.
