I'm making up some thank you postcards for follow up after a show. What are your thoughts on including instructions on an easy magic trick (something in public domain of course) on the back of the postcard. I don't think this would be too much magic exposure as I already include a magic wand magic kit (courtesy of Eddy Wade) that I give out to the guest of honor when doing my birthday show and I offer them for an up sale as party favor for the other guests. If you do agree with the idea any suggestions on an effect that could be summed up in a small space and would be easy for someone not familiar with magic to do. I'm getting ready to pull out some of my old beginner books to pull ideas from, but tips from someone who might be already doing this are always appreciated.

If you are sending a 'Thank You' postcard to a client after a show, I would suggest having a marketing offer in the card to help you secure your next gig.

I have done that in the past and it is a good idea. I have found a new neat idea that is even better and it is the two card monte. I believe the website is twocardmonte.com I could be wrong on that but do a search here on the Café and you'll find it. It is totally customizeable which is so cool. I am putting mine together now and will begin using them soon as a thank you to my clients. Check it out and this might be what you're looking for.

A thank you card is just that, a thank you card! It's not a marketing gimmick or pitch. You are thanking someone for using your services. Enclosing a free gift as a "thank you" gift is fine but not a pitch.
I send an actual booklet (non-magic) I wrote as a thank you to school principals. Does it make a nice impression and create referrals? You bet! All the best! John |

I put IMD (Dean Hankey's licensed product, Invisible Magic Dust) in with my thank you cards. Yes, it has my contact info on it. It's a fun, unique novelty item.
However, I don't put other business cards or promotional materials in with my Thank You. Those are put in other mailings, but not this one. This is not the time for overt marketing / promotion. By thanking them properly, you are building a relationship with them. For a great Thank You card script, seek out a post that Skip Way wrote at one time here on the Café, which is an adaptation of a Barry Mitchell Thank You card script (from Barry's product, "The ABCs of Children's Magic"). - Donald

Donald,
Thank you for the suggestion. However, I tried several different searches for Skip Way's thank you script but came up empty on a variety of key words. Does anyone know the thread this was on or if Skip reads this would he mind reposting it?
