This is a an incredible trick. Look at the demo:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TssrXeQzYMc&feature=related It's that clean in person. I was skeptical that it would be as easy as it was in the demo. Over the years there have been similar effects that required several cards to be gaffed and you had to set it up in advance. They were good for a magic shop to demo to newbies ( I'm still a newbie ). Royal Flash uses ONE gaff card to accomplish this startling change. All the shops have this and it's about $17.00. Here's what I love about this effect. You can do a killer poker demo routine. You deal poker hands to people and yourself. Everyone turns their cards over and...you lose. But, you show why you're banned from Casinos and ZAP- your hand changes into a Royal Flush You can set it up where they have actual good hands, it's up to you. I think at lest one should have a full house or some other great hand. But, you don't have to go that far. If you deal that many hands, someone will have be able to beat the one you deal yourself. This comes with a DVD and Mark gives tips and a way to clean up so it's examinable. The AD: The magician runs through any deck and removes 5 indifferent cards. The 5 cards are displayed BOTH BACK & FRONT at your finger tips. The following description sounds impossible but is accurate. Without any moves, cover etc. the cards all change, leaving you holding a ROYAL FLUSH! The 10,J,Q,K and Ace of spades are tossed onto the table one card at a time, showing both sides of every card. NO False Counts No Mis-Indexed Cards NO Rough & Smooth! NO Rubber Hinges or Tape! Gimmick Does 95% of the Trick! Very Easy to Do! Comes with custom made gimmick and step by step dvd instructions. Custom print by USPCC.

I had ZAPPED. Each card on that was gaffed. It was ok, just wasn't for me. Royal Flash only one card is gaffed and I think it's a bit more versatile.

The effect is similar, but the gimmick is completely different. I like this better than Zapped. You can spread and separate the cards at the end. Can't do that with Zapped.
Well worth the money.

Oh, thank you very much. They're just my opinions. When things work for me and what I'm trying to accomplish, I like to tell everyone. Like allot of us, I have the drawer of things that don't work ( OK, it's half the garage:-).
I wouldn't use this as a packet trick ( meaning taking it from a plastic wallet and doing it ). I think coming from a deck makes it more credible. Ideally, it's not the first effect you show them. I think if you do a color change, or an indifferent card changes to their signed card, you establish yourself as someone with incredible skill, so they don't doubt after that.

Thanks for the review Chris. The faces of the kings are not shown very openly in the demo as only the indexes are visible. Is it possible for the card faces at the onset to be more widely spread or is this just an inherent limitation?. I do of course understand that no magic effect is ever going to be absolutely perfect and I am probably being too finicky as usual. |

I understand what your thinking and I don't think you're being too finicky. It's what makes magic fun when you work on it. I also do that with effects. Think about a real poker game how people hold their cards. They slide them over to only see a little bit of each card, like in the demo, except facing themselves. What I worked out for Royal Flash, since I can't get the 4 cards to show more of the face to match the "one" card ( in the video it's the 10 of spades in Mark's left hand ) I make the 10 look like the other cards and have it join the other cards, showing only part of it. That's why I don't do it as a packet effect. Shuffling the deck, dealing hands, makes it all seem so normal ( until you make the change;-) I've had this routine worked out years ago, but anytime an effect came out that was in the spirit of what I wanted to accomplish, when I got it in the mail, it didn't cut it. That's why I'm so, over the top, happy with Royal Flash. Now, if you need a quicker routine, you just deal yourself a poker hand from off the deck and perform it that way. Mark shows a great cleanup that allows the cards to then be examined, if they wanted to. So, for table hoppers, you can have a quicker routine.

Thanks Chris. The reason for my post was that I had compared the demo for 'Royal Flash' with the demo for 'In Air' by Mickael chatelain. I liked both effects but was aware that in the case of 'In Air' all the cards were shown far more openly in the spread. Now I don't know if the nature of the 'special' card is the same for the two effects but I found this interesting.Royal Flash does also seem to be half the price of Mickael's offering. How would you say the two compare?.Do you have them both or are they completely different animals so to speak?
I do agree with you that for a poker themed presentation it would seem entirely natural to show your hand to others in a tight spread. The cards as you say could come straight from a shuffled deck. |

Andy I don't have "In Air". I have no idea of its workings. Here's a Café review:

Another great review Chris, I have this effect and love it. I like the idea of dealing out poker hands. Great idea! I always like Mark Masons effect.

I owned ZAPPED and sold it! I now own Royal flash and have to agree with Chris.
Because the gaff is simplier, less can go wrong. With Zapped, not all the cards might ZAP! And I feel the gaff by JB will last longer! |

Andy,
I know 'In Air' has a fairer spread but to be very honest, I doubt the spectators would notice the difference between the two effects. They're over so quickly, the spectators would have barely enough time to wonder why you're having a tight spread. Not only that, but I believe that a tight spread doesn't look so bad considering the fact that it's poker themed. Just my opinion though Chris, Thanks for the review brother! Stay safe guys, Logan
