Greetings all!
First let me say this is not a post to discuss the loss of samtalking, but a question of how we can use this board to replace part of it that I really liked (or if this is already going on here, please let me know where). I loved the idea of having video clips demonstrating some of the effects from the MUM magazine. Even if they do not show the method, just seeing the effect in motion sometimes fills in gaps in the descriptions for moves that I am not familiar with. Reading the latest MUM, there were some times that I just couldn't visualize how a move should look, and thought "how great would it be if I could just see it". Is there an appropriate place here where we could post video clips or links as a personal appendix to the magazine? Also, is there a section devoted to chat of the latest MUM? There is so much in there of a wonderful performing-theology nature, as well as history and profiles, that a number of posts could be made on various topics even in the public sections here... but maybe there would be a place for posts in the private section for discussions on the workings of the effects described in the latest issues (think mentoring, or peer assistance). Personally, I would be most interested in seeing videos of the effects being performed, and discussions on performance spun-off from the articles. Please reply if you have any thoughts for or against the idea, or if you know of where it already exists. (I just respectfully ask PLEASE, let's keep the posts that argue about samtalking, it's self, in the appropriate existing topics - not here)

Upon another look through the sections here, I guess the first part of my question is:
Would anyone be interested in requesting that a MUM room be made in the "Magazine Rack" section, and/or a room in the "Banquet Room" section for discussing tips on methods described in the trade magazines? I think the former would be a fantastic place for discussions if enough Café patrons were interested. As I write, I think the latter may bring up concerns of exposing too much from for-profit publications, and not just tips on handling of the published effects. But I'd love to hear what you all think about it.

I wouldn't mind a room which discusses M-U-M articles. But then again, you could always use SAMTalk.

Yeah, but personnally, I hate the format of the old yahoo boards. That's why I never go there anymore.

I never really started using SamTalk more than to stop in, since I had been a member of other Yahoo groups, and really do not like the format. It's just a personal choice, but it doesn't seem to be set up like here where there are separate places devoted to topics. I'll go back and check it out again though and see if I find what I'm desiring. Thanks for the input!

Hi Erick,
I have continued posting demonstration videos from my "Asian Astonishments" column on the SAM home page. There are new videos there now for two of the effects from Hayafumi featured in the Oct. MUM. You can see them here: http://www.magicsam.com/asianastonishments.asp If you scroll down to the bottom of the page you will find links to videos from other months as well. Enjoy! Steve Marshall |

It is great to see the videos. Having them on the SAM site is a wonderfull thing. It is too bad that the only official SAM place that we can go to discuss them among members is the antiquated yahoo forum.
Just my opinion... Louis Jutras |

Thanks, Steve! I didn't know they were on there.
And I do enjoy the fact that we have this forum available as well as the SAM homepage. A great thanks to those who keep up the Magic Café, and anyone involved in adding the SAM section.
