If Tom publishes his "findings" about Marshall and gives credible proofs and sources, that should be interesting!
I always love hearing these kinds of stories about the history of our art. |

I've written about this at some length over the years elsewhere, but in short, I also have serious doubts that Marshall ever worked directly under the Macks. He quite likely likely didn't even come on the scene until the late 1920s Not to take anything away from Marshall's wonderful work (which, after all, was a great source of inspiration for me)...but based upon some very compelling primary source evidence I've seen as well as an examination of the succession timelines of the business after the death of Theo and and his son Charles, it seems to refute the history we've been long led to believe (which for years was accepted as fact mostly via historians relying primarily upon Marshall's own PR). Marshall of course did eventually become successor to the Mack woodworking business, but not directly: Alex Cameron was the first successor, and Marshall came later. So, in the case of those mysterious figures that turn up occasionally begging the question "is it a Mack or an early Marshall?" in some cases it could actually be neither! It could in fact be Alex Cameron's work! To borrow phrase from Lewis Carrol, the story gets "curiouser and curiouser". Having said all of this, Frank Marshall still remains a hero.

History is really interesting...
Mr Ladshaw said it was Ken Spencer who got the shop first... Now Mr Semok is saying it was Alex Cameron who got the shop first... I have emailed Mr Bob Isaacson and his story is also different...

Interesting, Mr. Semok, very interesting...
Bergen's insistence that Charlie was NOT made by Marshall could point out that Marshall still was not in the Mack studio when Charlie was carved in 1922... Oh, this Marshall mystery... |

I stand corrected!
I checked Mr Ladshaw's emails and he also said it was Mr Alex Cameron who got the shop from the Macks. Mr Cameron hired Mr Marshall and eventually sold the shop to Mr Marshall.

Hi Mr Semok,
Happy new year! Just wondering, if Mr Marshall started making figures only when he was hired by Mr Cameron after Mr Cameron bought the shop from the Macks, where did Mr Marshall learn how to make figures? It's one thing knowing how to carve but another thing learning how to make vent figures. Wanlu
