If you've been reading my recent posts you know I'm at the stage of marketing...
Anyone have suggestions on material SPECIFIC to marketing gospel illusion shows? Currently I'm direct mailing church staff, doing closeup at church fall festivals, flyers posted in Christian book stores, etc. But I'd like to know, for example, when to contact for VBS planning, etc. It looks like December weekends are solid so far, but what about during the week, etc.? Obviously you like to market in some way all the time, and word of mouth stirs strong reaction. I'm really trying to target more to the church children, and there must be some specific strategies on which to do this. For example, is it cost effective to personally visit churches? |

September is Sunday School kick offs, January is start up after the Xmas break. June is end of sunday school, and depending on the church mid week clubs end in June or sometimes shortly after Easter. Those are target times.
VBS runs thruout the summer, although churches tend to try either early summer or late to bridge VBS to church events/kick offs/closers. Some cities have ministerial that meet(pastors in same ministry area meet monthly to pray, discuss stuff- see if there is a CE one in your target areas). You could try to connect into one of those meetings, I would suggest offering a free motivational speak and trick to encourage them as a means to gain an audience, not just coming in and saying" here is my material will you hire me". Word of mouth is huge. Rather than visit each one, do a couple solid shows and get references and hilight that in your website and promo stuff. Pastors are busy(despite the idea we only work on Sundays), so setting up a time to meet with them will likely result in little fruit, imo. birthday shows done for Christians is another inroad, ask parents who enjoyed your bday show to mention to their church you do gospel stuff. A few thoughts to get this thread going |

If you're looking for an over-night sensation marketing plan, you won't find one. However, I'm pretty sure that you're not.
I suppose my advice may not be the best one on this subject, but I suggest maybe slow down a little bit, get used to performing, take it easy, and let God do what He does best. There are so many marketing strategies, but finding one that suits you best all depends on not only your style, image, and character, but how you want to represent yourself for Jesus. The best marketing strategy is when you personally touch someone's life with the message of Christ. I assure you that those people will talk miles about you, and everyone who cares will want to meet you to either discuss some questions, or to arrange for you to do a church event or christian organization. I love your enthusiasm! I'm sure some others here may be able to give you great advice on marketing, but remember, never run faster than your Guardian Angel can fly.

D: All of the above!
Try each of them, even on a small scale. You will find what gets you the best results. TIP: Make sure each effort looks as professional as possible. Your mailing piece, for example, will be compared to others. |

I absolutely did no marketing other than introducing myself to pastors at first by handing them a business card. God took my availability and opened doors that kept me full time for 8 years...booked 2 years in advance. Its getting your foot in the door...so you may even want to consider having your church help you launch your ministry and invite other churches that are friends of your pastor or other churches in the area of your denomination to the "launching of your ministry" and then word of mouth will take it from there. You've got to connect with someone who is influencial with other pastors...

As a pastor, I can echo that, except you may not be looking just to introduce yourself to pastors. Many times it is the Christian Education Director, the Youth Director, etc. you may actually need to see, not the pastor.
The magic is not in our sleights and illusions, but instead in our ability to bring love and joy.

I'm a United Methodist pastor, and in our denomination, we have a clergy spouses group that meets a few times a year. I did a show for this group at our Annual Conference meeting (all of the clergy wives meet for a brunch while all of the pastors meet for clergy session, and after the brunch they have entertainment). If you can talk to the right person and get booked for this event (usually held in June), all of the clergy spouses will have the chance to see your show. Many of them are responsible, or at least influential, in suggesting to the pastor and/or church committee who to hire for the District christmas parties, fall festivals, VBS programs, etc. So, you could look at this as a showcase type of opportunity if you know the right person to contact. Best of luck, Jeff
