Hey. I'm looking to make a purse that is flamable on one side, But when you burn it, It wont ruin the purse and can still be lit again. Here is the effect I want to do with it.
3 coins removed from a leather coin purse. one coin is placed underneath the purse and a lighter is introduced. The lighter is ignited and waved under the coin. In a burst of fire, the purse is covered in a flame. as you turn the flaming purse over, the coin is seen to melt into the purse and have be felt and heard inside. This is done twice more and the coins are heard inside each step of the way. the last time, you dump out all 3 coins and are reset. Does anybody know if there is a way to make a flamable coin purse? I want to find a way to make this purse flamable on one side just a little bit, but so that when I burn it, It will always work again. I hope that makes sense. Is this possible? |

That sounds great! The trick would be a fine one anyway, but fire just seems to make everything better.

I remember a few years back Tom Burgoon put out a flaming coin purse that was just like the one you want. It had one section that was the fire, and another that held coins. Give Tom a shout.

Where could I find this? What I'm mainly looking towards is a purse that burns literally on the outside. Not the inner purse. I want to make it seem like I burn the purse to make the coin go in but if by magic and a burst of flame, the coins one by one go into the purse.

Sounds like what you need is a purse that won't burn. No real need for it to catch fire itself, and if it were to do that, how would you put the flame out?
As to fireproof purses, legend has it that Benjamin Franklin had a coin purse made of asbestos, which he would hold over a candle flame to amuse his friends. He would say that it was "salamander skin". You'd probably be looking for something like that, but not as carcinogenic. There are purses that are made of a flexible metal, like a tight-mesh screen. Maybe that would work for you?

Jim Pace's trick isn't exactly what I need. His burns on the inside. I need some way to make a small flame on the outside of the purse whether it is the purse actually burning or just a quick flash. that's actually interesting Curtis. I thought this thread was dead lol
