That's what I think Hypnosis has shown me. Seriously.
I am a Magician. Have been one for the past 20 years or so, since I was twelve. And for the past 10 years, a professional Illusionist. Born and raised in Malaysia (its between Thailand and Singapore), I've seen my fair share of the supposed "paranormal" feats of the varying religious and occult beliefs here in Asia. That's because Malaysia is a melting pot of Malay, Chinese, Indian, Sikh, Javanese and various other cultures, thus their belief systems as well.... It has always nagged at my psyche as to what really these feats were accomplished by. I knew that they weren't from a supernatural source as all the DIFFERENT belief systems seem to be able to perform the same feats. They can't ALL be true as they have opposing beliefs, e.g. many gods vs one god. For the past year I've been researching and practicing Hypnosis. Honestly, 99.99% of everything shown and claimed to be "supernatural" that I've seen can be explained away by Hypnosis (and Magic) as Hypnotists have performed them all these years. This is the "real" Magic that most people believe in, from my experience and research.... This was and still is an eye-opener and a life changing knowledge and experience for me. I would like to publicly thank the Hypnosis Community for showing me the truth behind our mind and our beliefs. A special Thank You to Derren Brown and James Randi. Sincerely, Pakar Ilusi

I really think that I've found my calling after all these years of looking.
I know it may sound a little exaggerated and melancholic, but I sincerely think that Hypnotists are doing more of a service to the community than they give themselves credit for.... Again, Thank You. To The Magic Café as well....

All religion uses trance. From the Baptist alter call, to pentecostal healing services, to catholic ritual, buhddist mindfulness, and even the scientologists...
Now most religions would claim they don't do hypnosis, that they are the truth, and it is from God... but I think you have discovered what many have, that it is already within us, both the phenomena and the answers. I have a stage hypmnotist fried who says if he ever can;t make it as a stage hypnotist, he will become a charasmatic evangelist, becasue they are doing the same thing.... one yells "sleeeep" the other "Heeeal"

Do keep in mind that while religions tend to use trance and some are more blatantly using suggestion similar to hypnotic effects, this in no way invalidates the experience or the religion. Certainly practitioners who are abusing the trust of others or making claims for supernatural powers when none are there are not to be trusted but trance can have a valuable place in religious practice for those who are so inclined.
All the best, Brian BTW, I am will be conducting a training in Kuala Lumpur in Dec. We're looking forward to this our first trip to Malaysia.

Since the beginning of time, all organisms have tried to achieve altered states of consciousness. Man with alcohol, drugs, meditaton, and hypnosis to name a few.
Bees drink sap from a lime tree and get drunk, certain birds get high from ants, hedgehogs search for creasote, cats with catnip, lemurs eat giant millipedes to get high, birds on holly berries, even reindeers on mushrooms. and of course, there are thousands more. The point is, we have explored anything and everything to reach some sort of "understanding" and have tried to tap into the subconscious or unconscious parts of our mind forever. Many religions, meditations, feats of strength, supernatural abilities, etc., all stem from the subconscious mind. None of these "special abilities" can be accessed from the conscious state. As we continue to evolve as humans, we continually look for that next step in making our mind and bodies to achieve the extra ordinary. Hypnosis is the most effective way to tap directly into that mind power without the "side-effects" of other methods. Religion, meditation, etc, I see as just various types of "inductions" to reach that "trance state". They seem to collectively follow a common path, to let the individual access the subconscious mind. That is where all the power is. At least we think so. ... Carl Jung discussed the unconscious mind being more powerful that the subconscious. He described the subconscious mind as being "a cork floating in the sea of the unconscious" Does that mean, there is WAY more inside of us, than we can actualize? I love to think that is true. Pakar, I am glad to see that you found the same love of the mind as we all do here. Welcome to the world of hypnosis and the subconscious. You will now be a student of the mind forever. Welcome aboard. Marc |

I have also discovered many of the same discoveries as Pakar Ilusi. So the next real question is. . . Was this powerful mind created by an intelligent being and designed with the potential for trance state for his purpose or is it just dumb chance? Do animals enter trance state? This is a good thread.

Thanks Jon Dee,
I personally believe and hope that it isn't just "dumb chance"... Other than that I really don't know anymore... All that I know is that we must cherish what we have now...

You have a quantum mind. It exists beyond the confines of your body and is part of a bigger collective mind.
To say something is "just hypnosis" is like saying the earth is flat. |

I wouldn't thank him to much Pakar. I told him that when I was drunk one evening. He thought it sounded good and hasn't stopped telling everyone ever since.
