Well, this would be perfect at a carpenter's union meeting. Call up your local AFl-CIO chapter...
Okay, seriously though if you really want to do this it would look more memorable if you nailed it to their wall. Okay no more jokes. This trick can be done impromptu. Just borrow their hand. :rotf:

I received my package in the mail yesterday. I'm just getting ready now to watch the DVD. Whooo hoooo! Oh yay, it actually comes with a block of wood, nails, and even envelopes. Plus, there is some sort of a bonus DVD with it as well. I'll have to check that out.
I hope to give a review of it in a few days.

The demo is edited. In Sankey's defense, he teaches several ways and techniques on the DVD to accomplish the effect. While I think he edited to shroud the method, the demo does allow you to watch the effect as spectators see it. There's some sleight of hand involved that's pretty much on par with standard card to pocket or wallet. The block is ungimmicked.

That's a nice review Wayne. I don't know if I can add to it, but I did say I would try to write a review on it so here it goes.
Jay does provide everything you need to perform this effect. But, you won't be ready to perform it until you watch the DVD. That's because the nails, envelopes, and even the block of wood is un-gimmicked and completely examinable. You can also easily find replacements from your local hardware store. You don't need to carry a hammer around with you to perform Block Buster, but a variation is provided as well for anyone daring enough to carry around a hammer with you while strolling.(lol) There are many different types of hammers you can use. You don't need to carry a big hammer with you. It just so happens that I have a mini hammer on my key chain which works very well. The block of wood easily fits into my back pocket, no thicker than a leather wallet. It's not expensive wood, and Jay took all the guess work out of deciding which wood would be best to use. Jays explanations are very detailed as he breaks down the moves one by one. He also provides many different methods and handling techniques. This might be a little advanced for the beginner, but it can still be learned with time and practice. I loved all the variations Jay presents, as well as the tips and advices. I performed this on my test subjects, (wife, brother, and close friend) on three different occasions, and in all honesty got one very strong reaction from my brother, and two very nice reactions from my wife and friend. My wife, Bonnie and my friend, Bill were very impressed, while my brother was emotionally floored.(lol) I wasn't disappointed with this at all, but when I purchased it I wasn't really sure if I would add it to my show or not, but after playing around with it I think I will. Is it the King Kong of card tricks? That would have to be a matter of opinion. Is it a reputation maker? The trick alone is not, how you perform it might. I always feel safe with Jay's stuff, because no matter what the trick is, or how hard or simple it may be to perform, Jay's eye for detail is spot on every time. I find him easy to learn from. But, I don't think this is going to be the next big thing. It's a great effect, I personally love it. I will be using it.

I've got a Gospel message I'm trying to work on for it as well. Still in the early stages, but I'll keep you posted pastermickey. I'm sure your wheels are rolling with this one too.

I have this as well. I bought it to see if it was an improvement on a method I already use. It wasn't. That being said I didn't regret the purchase as the dvd and Jay's cool style make some of the routines worth trying. The version I have been using for years is my own and is as follows... a block of wood with a m**n*t in it and a small pre made opening for the nail to stick in so the signed card can be palmed on the block and my other hand push the nail in the pre cut hole. The force of the m**n*t holds the nail in place and the spectator can rip the card off. I use it all the time and it gets great reaction. Jay's Blockbuster is a nice alternative without all the gimmicks but I will stick with mine.

Hmmm, m**n*t? I'm glad it works for you. However, I'm not clear if you actually understand the method Jay uses, only because you say that Jay's is not an improvement of your method. I would have a hard time excepting someone pushing a nail into a board with just their hand, and would be quick to assume that the board is gimmicked. Your idea sounds workable but I must respectfully disagree that Jay's is not an improvement. With Block Buster everything is examinable, and the card can be immediately handed out. No gimmicks, no mess, no fuss. Keith Tanger provides an alternative routine with two signed cards which looks really good as well.

Sankey has an amazing talent for taking something simple, working with it, studying it, trying it out in the real world, then sharing it with the magic community. Are all of his effects winners? No. Are they all ground-breaking? No. But I will continue to be a fan for all of the genuine effort, dedication, originality, and value he puts into his work. Viva La Sankey.

Isn't there a Penn and Teller version where they nail the card to Teller's head and of course there is a lot of blood etc.?
