I was given a set of Okito boxes, not sure who made them, but they are nice and include: (1) a standard Okito box; (2) a Boston box; and (3) a small diameter box. Unfortunately, the person who gave them to me did not have any material on handling, and I have never used them before.
I bought Mohammed Bey's "Okito Coin Box Routines", but it assumes knowledge of basic handling. Also, I have Bobo's "New Modern Coin Magic" on my Christmas list (I'm asking for the hard bound copy) so I don't yet have it as a resource. Does anyone have a simple set of instructions that might come with one of these sets that I can get? I'm willing to pay if necessary and the amount is reasonable. I just want to be able to use these great boxes. I may end up just buying Bobo's book in softback, and keep the hard bound copy on my list. But, any assistance that can be offered here is appreciated. Thanks! Gill

David Roth has a great DVD featuring the Okito box... wonderful stuff, and covers all the basics. Also his book "Expert Coin Magic" has a whole chapter on it.

Sounds like you have the Johnson "O-Korto" box set, a very nice combo set of Okito boxes. An excellent routine for these can be found in Bobo's "Modern Coin Magic." The Bey booklet was great for its time but is somewhat dated now; in my opinion, there are better handlings available now, paricularly in Bobo and Roth's "Expert Coin Magic" book, which is the Okito box on steroids, with plenty of very innovative sleights and moves.
As you may be aware, the softcover Bobo book is available in TWO different versions. The cheaper $10 one is the original 1951 printing, for which the copyright was not renewed. When the book went into the public domain, Dover Books picked it up and reissued it. At $10, it certainly is a tremendous bargain. After Bobo discovered what happened, he wrote and published a revised and enlarged second edition, which is the $40 hardcover version. The revised edition is also available in a $30+ paperback version as well. But for another $5 or so, I'd get the hardcover version. Have fun with those Johnson Okito boxes, they are great. SETH

I think I'm going to find a used copy of Bobo in paperback, and keep the hardbound on my Christmas list. I've also got Roth's DVD's on my list and look forward to possibly getting them.
After doing some looking, I'm pretty sure sethb has it right in saying it's an "O-Korto" box set. Anyone know how to date such a thing? There are absolutely no markings that I can determine. Thanks for all your help. Gill

Chad Long's "Okito-reverse Assembly" off of Chad Long's Magic Video.
David Neighbor has some good work with the Okito Box. There is also a good routine in the book, "Real World Magic," by I think, Jerry MacGregor. RevJohn |

I second Dave Neighbor and I would also check out Bob Bengal's work.

I would suggest you learn a simple routine with just one box....to learn the necessary basic move...
Then add things like the feature of the Boston Box....etc.. Then move on to routines mentions above...or..check out a Nearly Normal look at Coin Boxes..in the Linking Ring. About a year ago, I had a routine in the LR using a half dollar size coins placed in the regular sized box. and silver dollar size in a larger okito box. Effect...The small coins went from the smaller box into the closed dollar size box...and then the larger coins were poured out of the half dollar box.

Also check out Jason Wethington's DVD "Tied", you'll find a very good Okito Box routine. Does anyone know what happened to Dr. Bob's Magic Shop online store. I ordered a So-Kito box and a Boston Box recently and have had no response. I have emailed them twice.

I believe you will also find it on the Ben Salinas DVD that is basically duplicating Bobo's book.
