Not sure where to post this question.
Here goes. What is so special about Jerry Nuggets Playing cards? Is it just a collectors item? By that I mean. Is it that someone collecting playing cards needs this deck? Do they handle well? Will I be able to do an undectable pass with these? I mean you can buy a lot of excellent quality decks for $100 rather than just one of Jerry's Nuggets decks. Sorry for what might be a dumb question with an obvious answer. I would just like to know.

There is nothing special about them. Remember when all those idiots (including my wife) bought Beanie Babies for stupid amounts of money? Jerry's Nuggets are Beanie Babies.

Well, there are some people out there who swear by them, and really notice a difference. Others do not.
The problem is that by now, these decks are so old I truly wonder at how many are available in usable condition. I purchased a sealed deck from a Café member. When they arrived the cards were so warped the box that contained them was slightly bowed. You could 'pop' the deck (loudly) right through the box!
My ex-cat was named "Muffin". "Vomit" would be a better name for her. AKA "The Evil Ball of Fur".

Thanks Chessmann and MagicSanta,
I love this quote from MagicSanta: "Jerry's Nuggets are Beanie Babies." Read his post and you will know what I mean. I really thought this might be the case.

I agree that these cards are way too over hyped however the card stock is much different than other cards. The old style casino cards were much stiffer and feel much different than cards of today. There are other old casino cards that feel similar to Jerry's such as Las Vegas Club cards or Golden Nuggets. They won't make make you any better at anything they are just as MagicSanta says "Jerry's Nuggets are Beanie Babies" I for one, collect cards so I have a few. I never did collect Beanie Babies though!

Rorythegreat,
When you say you collect cards what exactly do you mean. By that I mean do you collect certain kind such as Casino cards or bikes or Tally ho, Kems etc. or just older and unusual cards. Just curious as I have several old decks but I cannot really fit them into a category. Some are oneway backs. I do like many of the ones I have as the Ace of Spades are different and some have neat designs. Also some have really different jokers. I guess this may be one way to collect. that is unique Aces and jokers. Maybe I answered my own question.

I collect a lot of different cards. Mostly cards produced by the USPCC but also older Casino decks. I have a lot of different Bikes, Bees, etc. I also collect decks that are a little harder to find as well. I really don't have a method to my madness, just whatever interests me. I too am a collector. I have a few decks of Jerry's myself. One of them is opened. They have a unique finish, handling, and overall look. I love them personally. They have a lot of spring and stability while still being super-thin.

The Jerry's Nugget cards were originally used by many of us because they were cheap and lasted a long time. When Jerry's was selling them they were $1.00 a pack. Everytime someone went to Vegas I would have them pick me up a few dozen packs. They were so cheap I used them for card warp among other things.
Later Earl Nelson used them on his videos, then they were used in the photos in Frank Simon's "Versatile Card Magic". At that point they began getting popular. As I understand someone from France bought out the remaining stock for some reason. Later the Buck twins popularized the cards. So there is the history as I understand it. All that said "super-thin" is not a term I would apply to Jerry's Nugget cards. In fact they are thick and a bit stiff. If you are used to handling modern Bicycles you will not feel comfortable with the Nuggets. I have packs of Nuggets that have been opened and handled for many years and they still are ok. A little sticky but useable. So if your Nuggets are "super-thin" I might be a bit suspect of their origin. There are fakes on the market now. Personally I'm down to one unopened red pack and a handful of opened packs both red and blue. I've decided to sell the unopened pack at some point and keep the others for myself. Looks like a genuine opened pack fetches about $150 or so and that is likely to stay since there is a dwindling supply. The red Jerry's make a perfect finish to a color changing pack routine. I always used blue Aristocrats then ended with red Jerry's. The change was very startling. Sadly I can't get the Aristocrats anymore either. I always thought they looked very nice. Hope that helps a bit. |

I got a deck of Jerry's Nugget Cards as a promo from some TV with a casino theme. Might have been that James Cann show, don't remember now, but one of my young sons got ahold of them, and, well, let just say we would have been better off with Beanie Babies
