I did a search on Caputo's books, "Spooky Magic" & "Electronic Magic" and I found 2 posts from members asking about the books but no responses.
So, how about it? Anyone have either of these book & if so, can a review be given? |

I purchased "Spooky Magic" a couple of years ago. If I recall correctly, the effects are more like spooky magic tricks, and electronic magic tricks, rather than Bizarre Magick Effects. It is a good introduction to some basic electronics for creating your own effects, so it's worth it for that fact. It's been a couple of years since I've looked at the book, but I remember it was just OK. Not bad, but not earth-shattering.
When I get home I can pull out the book (if I can find it) and detail the effects. Chuck was VERY friendly via email and seems like a decent guy. Hope this helps. Dave Birtwell |

Dave,
Thanks for the post. It helps in my decision to buy it. Of course, if you do get an opportunity, more details about the content & effects would be GREAT! Thanks |

Marqus:
I couldn't find the book (arggg!!!) as I moved my workshop from inside out condo to out loft space above the garage a year ago and of course not all items went into the same place on the bookshelves. I guess I way too many magick-related books ... 3 full sized ones and 2 half sized ones and even some sitting in boxes. I'll let you know more when I find the booklet. Boy, I REALLY hate displacing things. Dave |

Maybe I'll just get it (when I can scrape up some moolah).
Thanks for taking the time to look. Marqus |

Dave,
Just to let you know - I contacted Chuck Caputo & he sent me in the right direction as far as which book to get. Thanks. |

Marqus I've bought all of the books over the years. The 1st one was about 8 years ago. I just bought the latest one he came out with this year, Electronic Magic III.
I bought mine individually over the years but I see he offers a discount if you buy more than one at a time... http://www.freewebs.com/caputobooks/ As he advertises the books aren't written for electrical engineers but they offer very practical advice about how to actually assemble a number of effects - jumbo rising cards, snake basket, spirit clock, RC snake basket with fountain, etc. They are good books from an insider, easy to understand. He also gives you a lot of info about where to get the various components. All in all, if you want to do it yourself and you actually build the effects you will save more than the cost of the books on just one effect. I recommend them. |
