Abuse! Abuse! and abuse, POOR little cups, this man loves every minute of it. It was fun to watch though (LOL). I guess this is how he really gets audience attention, BANG BANG BANG BANG!
I liked the way he tilts the cup back by using the wand to hook onto the cup sattle (whatever it is called). This was a fun magic show to watch. Thanks for sharing. Have fun folks, but don't hurt the poor little cups! |

It is often unknown that there were several occidental routines to be performed on the floor. Actually in 1934, Laurie L Ireland devoted his year book to new moves for bringing the C&Bs from the floor up on to tables.
Admittedly most of the routines before the beginning of World War I were tabled routines. Thus there must have been some form of fashion to present routines on the floor between both World Wars. Does any one knows more about this?

I am not positive but I rememeber something about servicemen who practiced stuff in their fox holes during WWI and WWII. The ones that came home after WWI probably found it more comfortable to do the routines the way they practiced them. On the floor kneeling for sitting cross legged with the audience looking down on the routine.
Cardini practiced in the cold in a fox hole and had some problems doing his routines without the gloves. |

John Platt was also performing his routine sitting on the floor

You beat me to the Johnny Platt reference. I was really disappointed when I saw him do the routine with Western-style cups... as I was hoping to see him do his Indian Cups routine. I know he marketed an Indian Cup set (which I have complete with the chute loader) but I wonder if he ever really performed it?
Not cups, but Dick Zimmerman did a great version of the Rezvani Tomato Trick (precurser to the Benson bowl) sitting cross-legged on the floor. His final load of a BRICK knocked us silly as nobody knew where he got it from.

How about performing it on a spectator's hand if no table is around? The spectator can hold a solid piece of plastic for the cups can go on. If using 3 cups, use three different spectators to hold a cup.

I am learning a Mini Cup routine that can be done from the ground or table, this routine is from a booklet that I received from RNT along with my Mini Jester blue steel cups. It is the Milt Kort's Miniature C&Bs routine.
Have fun folks! |

Aren't those mini jester cups great? I am working up a routine at the moment but as I am recoverng from a severed tendon in my right little finger and I am right handed it could take some time as the smaller balls take much more controlling for me ... Practise, practise, practise!

Thanks, Philip, for bumping this up to the top again. I had not seen it. What a cool routine! All that banging and flipping. Funny how you get used to seeing one way of doing the sneaky stuff. If somebody does it a different way, it just sails right past.

I've never seen a routine like this before. I just loved watching it. He's got such a polished "challenge" presentation that works wonderfully. Plus, um, he FRIED me several times (and, oh, I was looking...).

This video has been posted here a couple of times before. That's not important, though. It's a very good video and lesson in sleight of hand and misdirection.
Regarding practice in the foxholes -- I seriously doubt that. It would be more likely that they practiced the routine on the deck of the ships as they came over to Europe from the States. You have to be alert in the foxholes.

Douglas... no need to be fried...you need to read up on the Indian Cups and how they load... he did it the same every time. One of the better Indian routines.
