I get what your saying and I don't want to offend you. I'm not sure who sent you the PM but I am sure that it was not a Paper Crane employee. Just to clarify I posted as papercrane I was at my co worker house and I mistakinly signed on with their screen name. I will say that any snide remarks come from your comment about not interested in buying I would not bring it up because the effect has sold very well and we are not hurting for buyers, but you say that you are busy with more stuff than you will ever use and you have tons of review stuff on top of that your performing and you don't have time to add to your bag of tricks. You do have time to add a small knock to a product that you have no interest in really investigating therefore you are not helping the product. I'm not trying to start a fight here but it is kind of weird that you would critique something your not really into. I personally only have time to post on stuff that I have an interest in so figure if it seemed weird. Seriously though I apprecite you attempt and I don't think you have some agenda in posting here. I am with you this is the sometimes necessary part of the Café that I don't enjoy either.

Ted,
What I meant by busy with more than I can handle is simply that I have no interest right now in adding to my current repertoire. Even if I had all the time in the world, I'd rather focus that time on other stuff that I already have rather than new stuff. People do with their time what they want. What I want is to work on stuff I already have and spend time reading and writing on the Café and other places. The comment has nothing to do with the quality of the product. I have no doubt that it's a great product. You guys do excellent work. In fact I just wrote up a killer review of "LIT" on my lovely assistant (It won't go live for a few weeks). I wasn't "knocking" the product. I was simply curious. Period. That's it. I just wanted clarity on the inconsistencies I was seeing between people saying "normal deck" and others saying "not normal." Also, you're in the business of selling magic, so am I. When someone says that s/he is not interested in my product, I don't take it as a snide remark or as my product(s) being "knocked". I simply take it as someone not interested. I don't read more into it. Believe it or not, I'm very happy for you and paper crane that it's selling so well. I wish you great success. Selling magic is a tough business, and you guys make great products. I just wanted clarity on this one. That's all. |

JStone, thanks for clearing that up I guess I took it the wrong way. Sometimes it's hard to communicate through email and your thoughts come off the wrong way. I would def. say that goes for me. Thanks for the support of Lit.

I actually like this effect also. I am not sure I will perform the sucker trick. However, I like the behind the back duel card selection. Reminds me of the brainwave being used as an invisible deck on crack! The ring effect is also very strong. I definately will pick this up...

I must admit I'm disapointed this has become available, I ahve been performing a similar routine for years, and I know several others who have. The concept is not new, although I do not know if it has been released. I know of people who have asked to release this routine, and been refused permission. It is a shame it is being released so cheaply, an effect that has been guarded for along time, is not recieving the treatment I feel it deserves.

Hello Nick
In 2008 I gave Eric Ross permission to include my routine, "Back to Back", in his work "Election". Please allow me to give a brief history of my effect. I first started performing my routine "Back to Back" during my club work back in 1976. It was also in 1976 that I did my first magic lecture. I did not, however, teach my "Back to Back" routine in that lecture. I did not put my method into print until 1990. I wanted to keep it mine as long as I could. I did tip my method to a few magical friends, but again did not put it into print until 1990. It was in 1990 that I started to do my lecture which included "Back to Back". The name of that lecture was "Bottoms Up" and my first lecture, from 1976, was named "Magic Behind Bars". I figured 14 plus years was long enough to keep the routine my own. Even though there are now thousands of magic enthusiasts who are performing "Back to Back" ("Election") I still perform it in my shows. It is my presentation and routine that sells it, not the method. I am sorry that the release of "Back to Back" ("Election") disappointed you. That was not my intention. I released my routine, and allowed Eric to release his, simply because I thought it was time to do so. It was also in 1990 that I started to sell a non-gaffed double magic effect through my magic shop. That effect was "Back to Back" and "Sympathetic Decks". Both were included in the instructions and both were taught in my lecture. Another Magic Café magician, Dan Paulus, published a routine "Blind Luck" 4 (four) years after I put "Back to Back" in print. Dan Paulus said, "I created Blind Luck sometime in the mid 70s." and Dan went on to say, "I believe I was 12. That would have been in 1974." As I noted above, "I first started performing my routine "Back to Back" during my club work back in 1976." That was when I was 23. As I stated above, "I first put the routine "Back to Back" and "Sympathetic Decks" into print in January of 1990 using a no gaff version. Dan Paulus said, "In my very first set of lecture notes, and a companion video, I included Blind Luck. That was 1994." So Dan came up with his routine and I came up with my routine, independently, 2 (two) years after Dan's. I put my routine into print 4 (four) years before Dan's but Dan came up with his routine independently. I have never seen Dan's routine so I do not know if the two effects are similar or not. From what I hear from other Café members, the routines are similar in effect but different in method and routine. I think it is safe to say that neither Dan nor I were influenced by each other. We came up with a similar effect which employed a different method and the routine was different as well. One of these days I will buy Dan's effect and do a comparison. I would be interested to see how similar the effects are and to see how Dan's magical mind compares to mine. In addition; In 2001 I released my book "Card A-Tack" which included three routines and ten ideas. One of those routines was the gaffed version of "Back to Back". In 2008 I released the fifth edition of "Card A-Tack" with over 150 routines and ideas. To date I have sold over 2200 copies of "Card A-Tack" with "Back to Back" being one of the top four routines featured. I have performed it for years at the Abbott Magic Get-Together, The World Magic Seminar, and at the Fechter's Finger Flicking Frolic Convention (of which I am one of the advisors). "Card A-Tack" also received a very good review in the Linking Ring magic magazine in I believe 2005. "Card A-Tack" is available through my magic shop, The Timid Rabbit Magic And Masquerade Shop (269-343-7777 or 269-501-2573) or stop by Michigan Magic Day 2009 for a demonstration. Hello
In my last post I said, "I would be interested to see how similar the effects are and to see how Dan's magical mind compares to mine." After I re-read that sentence I realized that it was not worded correctly. I did not mean in my statement "compares to mine", a comparison in quality. I meant a comparison in workings, either similar or different. Take care and take cards Antony Gerard Michigan Magic Day 2009 http://www.MichiganMagicDay2009.com |

Antony,
PM me your mailing address and I'll be happy to mail you my dvd. Though I sold the rights to Blind Luck this year to Magic City, I do still have a few copies left. Dan

I just watched this again and although it may be a biased opinion I think this is one of the best values in DVD magic out there. For 14.95 you get the main effect Election which is one of the most killer self working cardeffects you can do but you also get 3 other really great effects too check out the demo here http://www.papercranemagic.com/election.htm

Hello all,
I am new to the forum and I am finding it very informative. I also recently purchased "Election" and I think it is a great effect. I have yet to perform it, though, because of some of the concerns cited in previous posts (especially the spectators discovering the gimmick). I also don't know how to "clean up" properly. Does anyone have any helpful suggestions? Thanks. |

Hello tomboston
My name is Antony Gerard. I am the person who gave Eric permission to put Election out. My original name for the effect is "Back To Back" and was first put into print in 1990 in my duel effect "Back to Back" and "Sympathetic Decks". In 2001 I released my book "Card A-Tack" which included my gaffed version of "Back To Back" which I created in 1990. The gaffed version is the method that I gave Eric permission to release. If you set your stage correctly, there is VERY little chance of getting burnt. I have been performing "Back To Back" since 1976 and have only been burnt once. On that occasion it was my fault because I did not set my stage correctly. This past April I performed "Back To Back" at Michigan Magic Day 2009 for J.C. Wagner who bought my book, I also performed the routine at the 4F convention, and in May I performed "Back To Back" on the Close-Up and Parlor shows on Magic Cruise. After my Magic Cruise performance both Jon Armstrong and Jeff McBride bought copies of my book. In my opinion if it works for critical magicians, it will work for laymen. This is a WOW! effect and I suggest that you give it a try. As for clean up, I don't think that a public forum is the place to give details it. Please PM me. Take care and take cards Antony Gerard |

Hello Antony,
Thanks for responding to my question regarding Election. Based on your experience with the effect, I will definintely be trying it out soon. The fact that you have had such great success with it shows how strong it is. I can't wait to try it out! I will also PM you about the clean up. Tom |
