Hello Gaddy,
That is some find there. I suppose you have a bid in? How's your job doing, getting any more time for magic? Possibly see you around at an up coming lecture or the new SF venue starting up. Dr. Solar

I question the authenticity of this kit gaddy...it's a NICE one though but I don't think it is what it's claimed to be. I'll defer to the Curator...
Or...Might be an Ernst Blomberg aka Ernst freiherr von Blomberg...who made kits for the tourist trade in the 19th Century?

This one is obviously faked.
Bottles are from the 1930/40's era, the crucifix from the early XXth century, and the way the kit is built isn't in correlation with the epoch style. What is the purpose of the books ? And if you've stakes, you also need a good hammer. The gun is a little light against vampires, and the knife maybe from the era, but more or less useless. The purpose of a hunting knife is to decapitate the creature and/or remove the heart. And the gun's accouterment is missing and have never been there. It's one of the member of the Surnateum team, Kris de Ruysscher (and member of the Magic Café), who discovered without the shadow of a doubt, who was Ernst Blomberg. More: we have in our collection an original 1892 photo of Blomberg bearing his signature. We also discovered who was Nicolas Plomdeur, the man who bult the kits for Blomberg. So: funny but I won't spend 15000$ for that cheap imitation. |

Well... I did put quotation marks around the word "real"... (I'm certainly no expert in this field)
how about this one then? Which they claim is an original "Blomberg"?

I know this one from a long time.
The gun is around the 1860's and the "stake" is a 1900 silver "stake" for BBQ (yep, no kidding, I've a similar one). The kit comes from this collection, and the rest of the collection is really interesting. http://www.blenders.se/ebay/me/ocult/ Making a fake etiquette is the most easy thing to do, but building a convincing antique Vampire Killing Kit is far more complex. You need to know everything about the vampire lore in the era you're making one of the kits. So several questions must be answered: - When was the first historical recording of the use of silver bullet against vampire or werewolves. - What contains professor Blomberg'serum? - Why a crucifix and not a cross ? - What kind of book must be in the box (a Bible ? A prayer book ? Professor Blomberg's Instructions ? Or... Plus, you need to find the Blomberg serum) (and not a freshly made one). I've seen very few convincing kits in my career, not more than 3 or 4. I made this last one for my daughter's birthday, it took me 2 hours work and cost no more than $70. But it's not an antique one. It reads (Vampire Killing Kit: semi-professional model) Not guaranteed against Satan and Cthulhu. Not to use against your cousins (they are brain dead, but not vampires.) |
