Buddy on mine, Joe Oleszczuk, shared this with me yesterday whilst jamming. Guest asked for a candy cane and then added that he wanted it as a hat. Joe fully inflated a red and a white and connected them with one inch bubbles at the nozzles. He sized to the head and then twisted the red and white together with dual ear twists. Then he spiraled the remaining balloons together, locked them, and shaped in the crook. End product is a candy cane standing upright in the front of the hat. Joe said after the original, he couldn't make em fast enough.
I've use the basic idea to make the neck for a giraffe hat with a yellow and a golden rod, but never thought to apply it to a candy cane. |

If you want a really tight spiral, rotate or twist the balloons while you are spiraling. This is hard to explain in words, but give it a try. You will also find that the arch or "crook" of the candy cane can be made more rounded with a tighter spiral. I tie the nozzles of a red and white togther instead of making one inch bubbles. I think it looks neater, but go with what you think looks best. That's why they call it "art."
