Just curious what cup sets you guys like that fall under $100 in price...
I have my own favorites - but wanted to get an idea what others like... With so many lower end makes, new magicians have a lot of options..

My very first set of cups were $75 from Magic Inc. The Charlie Miller cups. I really don't think they're available at the price anymore. Most cups in that range are aluminum or very light copper. I like many other prefer a heavy cup. When I first got into the cups, we had just entered the golden age of cups, with many makers on the scene making fine cups from $150-$300. My current favorites are my copper Sherwoods. If you are really looking for a decent set at a bargain price, head over to RNT2 and take advantage of their big liquidation sale.

RNT2 does have some deals right now. Stainless Steel Monti's for $100.00 and PF Coppers for $125.00 I found a set of new Pengiuins on Fleabay for $65.00. The imported stuff you find below $50.00 tends to be a bit light for my taste but if they are ok with you that's all that matters.

As long as you stay away from the combo sets, the Bazar di Magia cups are very good. They are supposed to be working on a new version of their chop cup, so the gaff doesn't show up as prominently when you look inside the cup.
Cup sets that were $70 just a few years ago would now cost almost twice as much to make.

If you are in the market for combos the Mendoza's in spun alum at RNT2 look great and appear to have some weight to em and fit in this price range! As others have mentioned, there are some fantastic bargains at RNT2 at the moment!

There was a sub-$100 set that RNT II was retailing not long ago. They were called "classic" cups. They were made of copper with a satin finish (which cut production costs). In design they were reminiscent of the old Ravel aluminum cups but with much more weight. I rather like these cups because they look so "ordinary". They do not have much of a lip or bead. Riser produces something similar in design but it's much more expensive.
If you're looking to spend under $100, and if RNT II is still selling them, you won't go wrong with these cups. Fortasse |
