I am working on creating a new version of Coins Across with numbers on the coins. You can use different coins. It can be both gimmicked and ungimmicked. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5WbApJR93c That is the routine. I did flash a couple times so, you know....any suggestions would be helpful....I will take all opinions (positive and negative) as long as they are helpful.

I think it's too much work to put numbers in the coins.
You will try your idea in a performance? For me, this idea doesn't have a real motivation. Maybe with different coins and a justification, it's ok. And another point in the visual aspect of your video, you can't rec a video with this perspective. I hope this will be helpful.

Indeed, it was Pablo. Thanks for tips! The reason it's at that perspective is because my camera is attached to my laptop (so I can't really aim it; not to mention, its quality stinks). The motivation for the routine is to show each coin really does travel, and it's not a different coin...I am getting several types of gaffed coins made (copper/silver) to work it out as an International Coins Across. If I can get a performance video, I'll definitely post it. Thanks for your help!

As it is, I would suggest you do sort of what Tim Feher and Eric Jones does. Something like that. As for the video, it was incredibly cluttered and too close together, and the hands were going out of the shot way too much. I would suggest holding the coins at the fingertips at chest level. Tell them that the first coin will go across first, no really. And turn the coins around and, just as they have enough time to register the numbers, do the first transfer or whatever you want to do with it. Eric Jones' Speedfly might help you with this some.

There is an International Coins Across on the COINVention DVDs. Four coins, all different, travel across in the order specified by the spectator. You might want to take a look.

Well... I showed this to my Laymen friend because I thought I was on a track on every move, when it was happening and what did you do... Well, let's just say that my friend (laymen) knew exactly what was happening and actually asked me that when is the magic going to happen... It's really hard to do this kind of travel on a video because it needs some misdirection, and the camera/laptop was so close that you can see lots of flashing between fingers. Maybe if you would showed this live to him, he would have absolutely no idea! Keep it up and practice!

Thanks for all the comments, guys. Curtis, is it on the Coins Across DVD or a different one?

The New York Coin Seminar DVDs have Coins Across on almost every one from what I know. They have a 2 DVD set that is only like 50 bucks or so, probably even less. Might want to give that a check.

Seems a nice exercise that pretty much calls for a c/s/b gaff and a good presentation.

I was thinking several things with the handling I use....I was thinking numbers or a c/s/b type effect like you said, but not with a c/s/b gimmick....more like 4 different specially made c/s coin combos. I will try it with a c/s/b gimmick and tell you what I think. Thanks, Jon and everyone!

Try using a d**ble-h****d coin with different numbers on each side as a gaffus.

The motivation for the routine is to show each coin really does travel, and it's not a different coin... I've never found this to be an issue if the routine is well structured. I'm doing Roth's version of Winged Silver and have never had anyone question this. |
