It is with a saddened heart I post the news,
of the passing of Larry White-- Wonderful Magical writer, inventor, editor, performer, and a dear and good friend both to me, and to the Magical and Bizarre communities. What a cloud over the holidays. Larry however left behind a legacy to Magic worthy of a king... he will live in all the words, deeds, and effects he left to the art. Magically, Walt |

I heard just a few hours ago and the news hit me hard! Larry has been a friend, a mentor, and a sounding board to me. He was a wonderful person and friend. His loss has made this world a bit darker and colder. I don't have the words right now to describe what I'm feeling. Tony Iacoviello |

I'm really sad to hear that. I knew Larry's excellent reputation among magicians and the shadow digest.

I was not personally very close to him yet, no man is an Island. He was kind, intelligent, thoughtful, and hard working. My (limited) personal experience with him confirms this. I feel the loss deeply.
I offer my condolences to his family, his close friends, and to the community that will miss him so much. As to the world being darker and colder, alas, I think it true. Yet still, many here can endeavor to become mentors and sounding boards to the young. It falls upon the next in line to warm the world as they may. Larry serves as a shining example of how to accomplish that very thing. That is, perhaps, the finest thing he could have taught. As to a cloud over the Holidays, that is true as well. Still, thinking of him will serve as a source of illumination during this darkest time of the year. Oddly, we seem to have lost him leading into the darkest day of the year. That may be an odd fact that illustrates what the community has lost. A broken wand ceremony from this community would certainly be in order. In addition, remember to toast him during the Holiday celebrations.
Beware of this and that.

I'm very sorry to hear this. My first introduction to Larry's work was through his most recent endeavor, alongside David Goodsell producing "The Oracle." He was a prolific creator whose works I have barely begun to discover.

I'm glad to have dealt with him even a little during the time he and David were running Oracle. He was a real gentleman with great advice and a keen brain and a love of the art. I just wish I had more time to have kept talking with him. I'll miss him.

Raise a mental Sam Adams for him. He truly was a gentleman and even when "correcting" a paper when he'd read over a work, it was kind and thoughtful.
I find some irony that another friend crossed over on December 21st. That was 1991 and the man was Tony Andruzzi. Totally different in nearly every way imaginable but both were true friends and always willing to help others. Lary |

I just emailed Larry's wife Doris; Crying as I wrote down my feelings and thoughts. Larry was a tremendous friend, not just to me but to all of magic.
Over the years he has given of his creative genius. The battle with cancer seemed to be one he was winning. He was upbeat, and had plans for the future, He was working on a book of chemical Magic May God and all his angles embrace and love this man just as we do. One of the saddest Sundays in recent memory. It will be a long time before we have another like him. Kotah |

My thoughts go out to Larry White's family and friends. Larry did a very nice thing for me earlier this year, and I will be forever thankful to him for that. Larry White was truly a remarkable gentleman, and he will be missed.

Tricks Larry White Invented ? The list seems endless. THe original Tip Pen was his origination. The Bic Pen version sold for $5.oo, He made and sold over ten thousand of them. He was offended by the nlatant rip off versions. Some even bold enough to use the original name for the effect; and seeming to imply they had his blessings via an off hand crediting to him. We discussed this. HE did not give his blessings to the marking or sharoie version selling for almost forty dollars. Larry did not know, never heard from or spoke with the person making them. Wanted to fight the issue, but said he was too weak.

Larry White used his knowledge as a chemist to advise bizarrists on the Shadow Network. He was an expert source of magical information who will be greatly missed by the magical community.

Larry was kind enough to both help me with a few effects years ago as well as to ask me to contribute to M-U-M on a couple of occasions during his tenure as Magic Editor of M-U-M. For these things I am grateful and I will miss him and his contributions to my growth as a performer.

I was honored that Larry White considered me a friend. Larry reminded me that magic should be fun, and his mischievousness permeated everything he did. His passing leaves a void in my life.
Larry always supported others’ creative efforts and was generous with his own time and talent. He was the former magic editor for M.U.M. and the inspiration behind Devil of a Bar & Pub. He wrote more than a dozen science and magic books for children and received numerous awards from the science and magic communities. You of course know his involvement with Oracle. Larry faced the frustrations and vagaries of chemotherapy, hospitalizations and related medical problems with humor and zest. Last summer, he marveled at enjoying a glass of wine with his wife Doris on the deck of their modest home in Stoughton MA. “I’m living!” he said. Larrry's family is honoring his wishes by holding private services, only. Condolences may be sent to Doris White 38 Lillian Rd. Sad news indeed. I never had the pleasure of meeting him in person but we corresponded on occasion and he talked me into submitting several of my routines for MUM and Oracle.
He will be missed but live on through his many works and writings. He left the world a better place through his many contributions.
